Plaque REgression With Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitor or Synthesis Inhibitor Evaluated by IntraVascular...
HypercholesterolemiaCoronary Artery DiseaseThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the difference in the effect of coronary plaque regression (as measured by intravascular ultrasound [IVUS] imaging) between cholesterol absorption inhibitor and cholesterol synthesis inhibitor.
Trial of Two Dietary Programs on Cardiometabolic Risk Factors in Subjects With Metabolic Syndrome...
Metabolic SyndromeOverweight2 moreThe objective of this study was to investigate from 3 sites (University of Connecticut, University of Florida, and University of California, Irvine) whether enhancement of a modified Mediterranean-style, low glycemic load diet (MED) with specific phytochemicals (soy protein, phytosterols, rho iso-alpha acids and proanthocyanidins; PED) could improve cardiometabolic risk factors in women with metabolic syndrome.

DyslipidemiaHypercholesterolemia1 moreThe primary purpose of this study is to test the effect and safety of three different doses of ABT-143 compared to simvastatin in subjects with elevated levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol ("bad cholesterol") and triglycerides.
Comparison of the Effect of Vytorin 10/80 Tablet Split Into 4 and Simvastatin 20 Milligrams on Low-density...
HypercholesterolemiaThe purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of a Vytorin 10/80 tablet, an approved agent for the treatment of elevated LDL cholesterol which combines the cholesterol absorption inhibitor Ezetimibe 10 mg and simvastatin 80 mg, when split into 4 using a tablet splitter, versus a whole simvastatin 20 milligram tablet.
Study to Compare Welchol and TriCor to TriCor Alone in Patients With High Cholesterol
HypercholesterolemiaHyperlipidemia1 moreThe primary objective of this study is to compare the effect of Welchol in combination with TriCor compared to TriCor alone on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients with high cholesterol.
Effect of Diabetes Mellitus on Cholesterol Metabolism
Type 1 Diabetes MellitusType 2 Diabetes Mellitus1 moreHMG CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) are commonly used to treat high cholesterol (HC) in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Several studies have shown benefits of statin among patients of type 2 DM, however, no such data is available for patients with type 1 DM. It is known from studies on cholesterol metabolism using surrogate markers that patients with type 1 DM have higher cholesterol absorption compared to normals and those with type 2 DM have higher cholesterol synthesis. Since statins inhibit synthesis, patients with type 1 DM may not have a good response and may respond better to cholesterol absorption inhibitors. The purpose of this study is to determine the cholesterol lowering effects of cholesterol absorption inhibitors and cholesterol synthesis inhibitors in subjects with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
