Functional and Clinical Impact of CYP3A Genetic Polymorphisms on Statin Therapy

Patients With High Cholesterol Levels Needing a Lipid-lowering Therapy

Patients needing lipid lowering therapy will be recruited before initiation of the treatment. For each patient, total and LDL cholesterol levels before start of therapy will be measured. One, three and six months after his/her first visit, when steady-state will be reached, for each included patient, the cholesterol levels will be re-assessed in order to evaluate the response to statin therapy calculated as the amplitude of cholesterol reduction. The aim is to assess the association between patient's genotype and the response to statin therapy.

CEntralized Pan-Russian Survey of tHE Undertreatment of hypercholeSterolemia II (CEPHEUS II)

Dyslipidaemia

This is a multi-center survey of patients who are currently receiving lipid-lowering medications and have a moderate or higher cardiovascular (CV) risk. The survey will be conducted in the Russian Federation. Data collection for each study subject will be done within one physician visit. If an enrolled subject comes to the visit not fasting (for at least 8 hours), an appointment for the blood tests will be made for another day.

Observational Study to Understand Patients' and Physicians' Attitudes to Statins in TurkeY

Hypercholesterolemia

In Turkey statin compliance is lower than EU countries. (EURIKA). We will assess the underlying causes of statin incompliance. The investigators will build patient and physician education programs to improve compliance in TURKEY. Our aim is to assess patients' and physicians' attitudes to statins by mean of HABIT Patient and Physician survey respectively.

Effects of Purple Vegetables on Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Factors

HypertensionHypercholesterolemia3 more

The hypothesis is that richly coloured purple vegetables, rich in polyphenolic compounds including anthocyanins will have higher antioxidant and other biological activities, than more lightly coloured versions of these foods. Diets of human subjects will be modified to allow consumption of 200-300 g of raw carrots or cooked potatoes. Participants will be randomized to consume either orange or purple carrots, or white or purple potatoes. They will consume these diets for 12 weeks and bioavailability of polyphenolics will be examined as well as anthropometry and blood biochemistry for changes in risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease.

Centralized Pan-Middle East Survey on the Undertreatment of Hypercholesterolemia

Hypercholesterolemia

The purpose of the study is to establish the proportion of patients on lipid-lowering pharmacological treatment reaching the LDL-C goals according to the NCEP ATP III/updated 2004 NCEP ATP III guidelines, overall and by country, in the following sub-populations: Primary/secondary prevention patients. Patients with metabolic syndrome (according to NCEP III definition). In addition, the purpose is to establish the proportion of patients on lipid-lowering pharmacological treatment reaching the LDL-C goals according to the Third Joint European Task Force guidelines/national guidelines, in the survey population and in the following sub-populations: Primary/secondary prevention patients. Patients with metabolic syndrome.

Lipoprotein Metabolism in Normal Volunteers and Patients With High Levels of Lipoproteins

HypolipoproteinemiaHypercholesterolemia2 more

Researchers plan to study the fat-rich particles, called lipoproteins, which circulate in the blood. This study is designed to improve understanding of normal, as well as abnormal, lipoprotein metabolism and the role it plays in the development of hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Patients participating in this study will receive injections of lipoproteins or apolipoproteins (the protein component of lipoproteins) that have been isolated and purified. These lipoproteins will be labeled with small amounts of radioactive material and sterilized before they are injected into the patient. Patients participating in the study will be required to have blood samples taken, and provide urine samples throughout the course of the study. In addition, patient will be required to follow a specially formulated diet. Patients will be weighed throughout the course of the study....

Online Trial Examining Validity and Reliability of the Shared Decision Making Process Survey

High CholesterolHigh Blood Pressure3 more

The purpose of this study is to survey a sample of adults who have recently made a decision about treatment of high cholesterol or high blood pressure or a decision about screening for colorectal cancer, breast cancer, or prostate cancer. The main goal is to gather evidence of the validity and reliability of the Shared Decision Making Process scale.
