The Clinical Evaluation of Efficacy of Lipid-Lowing Tea on Hyperlipidemia Patients' Lipid Profiles...
HyperlipidemiaThe purpose of this study is to determine whether the Lipid-lowing Tea is effective and safe in the treatment of Hyperlipidemia Patients
Study to Evaluate the Effects of XXS on Oxidative Stress in Patients With Mild or Moderate Hyperlipidemia...
Oxidative StressGiven preliminary data in animal (proprietary data) have shown that XXS (a mixture of natural polyphenolic extracts of edible plants) has a significant and favourable effect on oxidative stress notably with a decrease in certain markers of oxidative stress and on plasma lipid parameters, the investigator proposes to study the effect of 6 months of treatment with XXS in a controlled study against placebo in a population of persons presenting a lipid profile at the upper limit of normal.
Plasma Triglyceride Lipolysis in Multifactorial Chylomicronemia
HyperlipoproteinemiaPurpose: The mechanism of most of the multifactorial chylomicronemia (MCM) remains elusive. In order to decipher the mechanisms involved in the occurrence of this disease, plasma TG lipolysis characteristics will be monitored for 60 minutes after heparin injection instead of the 10 minutes gold standard, in a large group of genotyped MCM patients.

FH Detection in Children by Salivary Test
Hyperlipoproteinemia Type IIFamilial Hypercholesterolemia is a common cause of premature coronary heart disease, it is present in 1 per 500 to 1 per 250 people of the general population. Studies on families of Hypercholesterolemia have shown that children with Hypercholesterolemia have a major increase in risk of coronary heart disease after the age of 20. The difference between Hypercholesterolemia and normal children in their atherogenic profil begin at the age of Nowadays , systematic screening techniques are not well implemented whereas their are clear World health organization guidelines. International studies show treatment must be initiated early as at the age of eight years old. In pediatry, Parents can be reluctant to practice blood test on their children. In order to allow more patients to be diagnosed and treated early enough to prevent major complications we need to find an non invasive test. The main objective is to define the level of detection of cholesterol in saliva with two enzymatic tests. Furthermore we aim to evaluate the performance of salivary detection of cholesterol in children.
Lipid Metabolism in Gestational Diabetes
Gestational DiabetesHyperlipidemiaThe purpose of this pilot study is to determine if, during pregnancy, women with GDM have an exaggerated lipid response compared to non-gestational diabetics. If a difference is noted, further studies will explore the possibility of screening gestational diabetics during their pregnancy for hyperlipidemia to determine if prenatal screening can predict postpartum risk for hyperlipidemia. In addition the relationship, if any between maternal lipid dysfunction and placental disease will be explored. This will be a prospective cohort study. As part of routine prenatal care, women receive a one hour glucose challenge test to screen for gestational diabetes. Those women with elevated values then require a three hour glucose tolerance test, which is a diagnostic test for gestational diabetes. All women that are scheduled to receive a three hour GTT will be identified and ask to enroll in this study. 46 women whose three hour GTT is normal and thus do not have GDM, will be compared to 46 women with an abnormal three hour GTT and thus would have the diagnosis of GDM. Enrolled women will have a lipid panel consisting of; total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL cholesterol at the time of their fasting glucose blood sample. In addition, a repeat lipid panel will be sent at the time of the third hour sample, to assess changes, if any due to the glucose challenge. Umbilical cord blood samples will be sent in order to obtain newborn lipid profiles. Women in both the GDM and normal groups will be asked to return 6-8 weeks
European Study of Cardiovascular Risk
Cardiovascular Risk FactorsHyperlipidemia4 moreThe main objective of this study is to describe the management of patients with cardiovascular risk factors in primary prevention among different European countries. The patient's participation consists of a single study visit during a routine visit of the patient to the clinic/office. Study variables will be measured: By an interview between physician and patient during the visit and/or available medical records' information: social and demographic patient characteristics, relevant family medical history, current medication. By questions asked to the physician: physician perception of patients' CV risk factor, guidelines adherence and cost-containment. By measurement performed to the patient during the visit: weight, height, BMI, waist and hip circumference will be measured. CV risk factors (blood parameters) will be measured by collecting available data documented within the last year in the medical records and by the collection and analyses of a blood sample during the visit.
Effect of Genes on Rosuvastatin Therapy for Hyperlipidemia
HyperlipidemiaPrevious studies indicate that the variant status of detoxification proteins is different among Taiwanese and other ethnic groups. For example, in Taiwanese, the major SNPs of CYP2C9 are CYP2C9*2 (430C>T) and CYP2C9*3 (1075A>C) and their frequencies are different from that in Caucasians [11]. The second example is that the frequency of the A(TA)7TAA allele in the promoter area of the UGT1A1 gene is substantially lower, while for the rate of variation within the coding region is much higher in Taiwanese than that in Caucasians (14.3% vs. 35.7- 41.5% and 29.3% vs. 0.1%, respectively) [12]. The third example is that the frequency of 388A>G of the OATP2 gene in Taiwanese (0.68) [13] is in between that in European Americans (0.30) and African Americans (0.74) [14]. Therefore, the investigators hypothesize that, in Taiwanese the SNPs of detoxification proteins modulate the lipid-lowing effects of RVA and fenofibrate may be different from those for Caucasians.
Risk Assessment of Long-Haul Truck Drivers
GonorrheaChlamydia Infections7 moreInternational studies have repeatedly documented a substantial prevalence of sexual risk behaviors and high rates of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) ranging from 5%-56% amongst long-distance truck drivers ("truckers") living in diverse international settings including India, Bangladesh, South Africa, China, Laos and Thailand. The prevalence of sexual risk factors and STI/HIV in US drivers is unknown. This proposal will provide both qualitative and quantitative data on HIV risk behaviors by interviewing and testing truckers working for established long-distance trucking firms, the sector which accounts for most of the jobs in the trucking and warehousing industry in the United States. The data obtained from this study will be used to inform the development of an HIV prevention intervention for long-haul truck drivers.
PLATOREL® STUDY IN CARDIOVASCULAR RISΚ ASSESMENT
DyslipidemiasHyperlipidemias3 moreDyslipidemias are a major risk factor for the onset of cardiovascular disease, while early diagnosis and appropriate treatment approaches significantly reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The aim is to provide revised Greek guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidaemias. The lipids of the human body are cholesterol (it is used to synthesize cell membranes, adrenal hormones and gonads and is a component of bile) and triglycerides (used as a fuel and as a storage of energy in adipose tissue). Dyslipidemias are disorders (quantitative or qualitative) of the metabolism of lipoprotein particles [low density lipoproteins (LDL), chylomic, high density lipoproteins (HDL), very low density lipoproteins (VLDL)] that carry lipids into the body. Primary prevention in subjects aged 40-65 years with no known clinical atherosclerotic disease and without diabetes or chronic renal disease should evaluate the likelihood of a fatal cardiovascular event over the next 10 years. For this purpose, it is recommended to use the Greek version of the SCORE of the Hellenic Heart SCORE.
