One-year Prospective Observational Study of BMI Change Effect of 5-alpha Reductase Inhibitor in...

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

It is widely-accepted that serum testosterone level and BMI (body mass index) representative of the degree of obesity has negative correlation. Considering the fact that obesity is being mentioned as a risk factor for development of prostate cancer as well as other various life-threatening diseases (example: cardiovascular problems), the effect of BPH treatment agents on BMI is a subject that should certainly be elucidated. Meanwhile, to our knowledge, no prospective study has so far been performed on such issue in Asian population. Prior to generating hypothesis of the effect of 5 alpha reductase inhibitor on BMI, the real effect of 5 alpha reductase inhibitor on BMI change in Korean BPH patients has to be observed in real clinical practice. This study will test the effects of one-year medication of 5 alpha reductase inhibitor on BMI among Korean men with BPH.

Whether Transperineal Prostate Biopsy Under Local-anaesthesia Using a Transperineal-access System...

Prostate CancerProstatic Hyperplasia

Tranperineal prostate biopsy(TPB) and Transrectal prostate biopsy(TRUSB) are now both routine diagnosis methods of prostate cancer in Queen Mary Hospital. The TRUSB has been the most common way to sample prostate tissue for decades. The TPB has been employed as one of our routine diagnosis methods in early 2018. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether Tranperineal prostate biopsy using a noval transperineal access system under local anaesthesia is non-inferior to standard 12-cores Transrectal prostate biopsy in detecting prostate cancer (PCa), in patients with clinical suspicion of PCa with no prior prostate biopsy.

Tadalafil Plus Tamsulosin for Male LUTS and ED

Prostatic HyperplasiaBenign3 more

Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is a complex epidemic disorder with an impact on both lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and erectile dysfunction (ED). Combination therapy of daily tadalafil and tamsulosin may provide relief to both diseases. Aim of the present study is to assess the impact of combination therapy of Tadalafil 5mg plus Tamsulosin 0.4mg on LUTS and ED, according to presence vs. absence of Mets.

LC-MS / MS Adrenal Steroids Assayed on Dried Blot Spot for the Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Neonatal...

Adrenal HyperplasiaCongenital

This research uses the Liquid Chromatography coupled to tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS / MS) technique on dried blot spot samples for the neonatal screening of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. The main objective of this study is to demonstrate that this technique allow dosage of adrenal steroids on dried blot spot samples as efficiently and with the same sensitivity than the current technic on a cohort of 132 newborns aged 2 to 5 days, with a gestational age greater than or equal to 30 weeks of amenorrhea.

Effectiveness of Medical Management of Fibrous Dysplasia of Bone.

Fibrous Dysplasia of BoneMcCune Albright Syndrome

The objective of our study was to assess the effectiveness of our reference center since its constitution. In a retrospective cohort study, we compared the activity of our center, including the time elapsed between diagnosis and access to the center and the diagnostic delay of patients with fibrous dysplasia between two periods, 1996-2006 (before certification of our center) and 2007-2019 (after certification of our center).

Prospective Study Assessing Blood Pressure and Other Outcomes Post-treatment in Patients With Primary...

Primary AldosteronismPrimary Aldosteronism Due to Aldosterone Producing Adenoma1 more

Majority of patients with hypertension have primary hypertension (without an underlying cause). Secondary hypertension (due to an underlying disease) is important to recognize, as treatment can lead to cure of hypertension. Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension, and can be found in 5-10% of patients locally. PA is caused by excessive release of a hormone (aldosterone) from the adrenal glands, which can be unilateral (one gland) or bilateral (both glands). Distinction between two is crucial as unilateral disease is treated with the aim of cure by surgery, and bilateral disease is treated by medication. It has been shown that excess aldosterone has other harmful effects in addition to hypertension, such as directly affecting the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, diabetes and quality of life. This is supported by studies showing reversal of these effects after treatment for PA. In addition, improvements after surgery appears to be superior to medical treatment, although studies have found variable results. Hence, the investigators aim to accurately subtype patients with PA into unilateral or bilateral disease and study the post-treatment response after both surgery and medicine with regards to the effects on blood pressure, cardiovascular, renal, metabolic and quality of life.

Evaluation of Phenotypic and Genetic Properties in Male Subjects Affected By Hypohidrotic Ectodermal...

X-linked Hypohidrotic Ectodermal DysplasiaHypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia

The study proposes to enroll male subjects affected by Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia (XLHED). The sweat duct images will be acquired with a CE marked skin-imaging device and the sweat rate will be measured using a CE marked pilocarpine iontophoresis and collection system. The technologies for both imaging of sweat ducts and the measurement of maximal sweat rate have been used safely and without adverse events in our prior studies involving HED/XLHED subjects. Furthermore, this study will assess the feasibility of developing a non-invasive screening tool that will enable detection of clinical signs of XLHED based on an analysis of a two dimensional frontal photograph.
