Spaeth/Richman Contrast Sensitivity Test

Glaucoma

The Spaeth-Richman Contrast Sensitivity (SPARCS) test is a new method of assessing contrast sensitivity. The test, another way to measure vision, is performed on any standard computer with internet access. Patients will be tested with SPARCS and with the standard Pelli-Robson contrast test.

Accuracy Of Skin Prick Test Using In-house Wheat Extract For The Diagnosis Of IgE-mediated Wheat...

Wheat Allergy

Nowadays, commercial wheat extract is widely accessible, and is used for skin prick test for wheat allergy. However, commercial wheat extracted for skin prick test have less precise test result compared to extract from omega-5 gliadin, which is one of the major allergen with immediate wheat allergy.

The Effect of Sitting and Moderate Exercise on Plasma Insulin and Glucose Responses to an Oral Glucose...

Sedentary BehaviorInsulin Sensitivity1 more

The investigators hypothesize that cycling for 1 hour of exercise at 65% peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) after sitting >13 hr/day (SIT+EX) will not be different in postprandial plasma insulin responses compared to the control of only sitting (SIT). Furthermore, the investigators hypothesize that the SIT and SIT+EX groups will have a less favorble insulin response compared to the physically active group after performing the same 1-hour exercise bout (ACTIVE+EX).

Chlamydia Trachomatis InfectionNeisseria Gonorrheae Infection3 more

This study aims to compare the sensitivity of detecting Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Mycoplasma genitalium by real-time multiplex PCR in a pooled analysis (i.e. gathering pharyngeal, anorectal and urinary samples) versus the standard of care (where a real-time multiplex PCR is made in each of the three samples).

iFAAM: The Impact of Proton-pump Inhibitors (Antacids) on Threshold Dose Distributions

Food Allergy

In patients with a walnut allergy double blind placebo controlled food challenge with walnut will be combined with the intake of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) or with placebo to assess the impact of PPI on threshold level and on clinical manifestation.

Skin Sensitivity Acupuncture and Kinesiotherapy on Breast Cancer Patients Subject to Chemotherapy...

Chemotherapy Effect

Objective: to compare different therapies employing acupuncture needles, silicon pellets and kinesiotherapy in breast cancer patients to taxane chemotherapy cycles. Methods:The present study will be carried out at the Oncomastology outpatient clinic of the UNIFESP (Federal University of São Paulo) Gynecology Department's Discipline of Mastology - Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM) and the Oncology Clinic Associated Center of Oncology, located at Rua Gabriel Monteiro da Silva, 454. randomized clinical trial will be conducted to define the treatment. Patients will be allocated into three groups (Group A: Stiper, Group B: Acupuncture, Group C: Kinesiotherapy and Group D After treatment ) who will receive treatment once a week for eight consecutive weeks. Group - S-observation.124 patients will be randomized in one of the three groups, after having signed the Free and Informed Consent Form and agreed to participate in the project, will respond to the evaluation form and will be submitted to physical examination. Patients will be evaluated in the first and tenth sessions. Keywords: Acupuncture, Breast Neoplasm, Chemotherapy.

PEAnut Anaphylaxis Predictors

Peanut HypersensitivityAnaphylaxis

Peanut allergy can be life-threatening. Current diagnostic techniques for peanut allergy have high sensitivity, but not high specificity. This clinical trial will test the validity of a novel blood biomarker (compared with current testing) as a diagnostic predictor of anaphylaxis to peanut.

Determinism of the Mechanism of Action of Specific Immunotherapy in Hymenoptera Venom Allergy

Hymenoptera Allergy

Currently, most of the protocols used for desensitization to Hymenoptera venoms consist of a very rapid increase in doses of venom extracts administered during the SIT in a day without systemic reaction of the patient which is not yet explained. The hypothesis is that this good tolerance is due to a rapid decrease in the response of mast cells and basophils to the allergen.. The main objective is to study basophil activation in response to the allergen during the first day of desensitization, measured by basophil activation test. The initiation of desensitization follow a protocol of rapid growth rates. The basophil activation level in the course of desensitization will be analyzed by flow cytometry after in vitro stimulation by allergen. Changes in T cell polarization is also analyzed by flow cytometry. Evolution of the expression of different proteins in blood basophils will be studied by measuring their messenger RNAs

Elemental Formula Hypoallergenicity

Food Hypersensitivity

The primary objective of this clinical trial is to determine whether a new amino acid-based formula is hypoallergenic as defined by the American Academy of Pediatrics (2000), demonstrating that the test formula does not provoke allergenic activity in 90% of infants or children with confirmed cow's milk allergy (CMA) with 95% confidence as compared to a commercially available hypoallergenic formula.
