Health-related Quality of Life and Nursing-sensitive Outcomes in Mechanically Ventilated Patients...
Quality of LifeThis study will allow us to determine the perceived Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQL) a year after ICU discharge, and compare it with HRQL measured earlier on in the process, as well as analyse the negative experiences they had while in the ICU and as a result of MV and their impact over time. It will also allow us to assess the effect of Nursing Sensitive Outcomes and ICU stressors on health-related outcomes and how they affect HRQL.

Immediate Type HypersensitivityPollen allergen extracts are prepared locally and checked for efficacy by comparison to imported allergens and specific IgE.
Applying Systems Immunology to the Search for Personalized Biomarkers of Clinical Efficacy
AllergyStudy Objective: Allergies affect up to 20% of the population of developed countries and can cause substantial individual disease burden. For some allergies, immunotherapeutic regimens ("hyposensitization") have been established, e.g. for insect venom allergies and pollen allergies. This project aims at identifying the T cell activation potential in vivo from resting T cells of patients undergoing immunotherapy (IT) via a systems biology approach. For the participants, it involves blood draws and stool collection as well as gathering some basic medical information. The participation takes one week for patients undergoing insect venom IT and three months for patients undergoing pollen IT. A control group without a clinical history of allergies is recruited. Blood and stool samples are collected in the same time frames as in allergic patients. This study is a cooperation project between the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL), the Luxemburg Institute of Health (LIH), the University of Luxembourg and the Integrated Biobank of Luxemburg (IBBL).
Changes in Intestinal Permeability 4 Hours After Gluten Challenge
Celiac DiseaseWheat Hypersensitivity4 moreThis study evaluates why people with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten/wheat sensitivity develop rapid onset symptoms within hours of gluten exposure. Half of subjects will be given gluten and half will not.
Insulin Sensitivity During Hyperbaric Oxygen Compared to Hyperbaric Air
Diabetes MellitusType II1 moreIn a recent series of studies performed by our group, we have shown that exposure to hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) leads to an increase in insulin sensitivity in male subjects with type-2 diabetes (T2DM) and in obese and overweight men without diabetes. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between pressure and oxygen in producing this effect, specifically, is this effect measurable in hyperbaric air or is some higher pressure of oxygen required? Aims: To determine whether the insulin sensitising effect of HBO is apparent in hyperbaric air at the same pressure as HBO. To examine mechanisms underpinning the increase in insulin sensitivity following HBO.
Validation of the French Version of the Pain Sensitivity Questionnaire
Scheduled SurgeryHealthy VolunteersThe Pain Sensitivity Questionnaire (PSQ) is a tool created in 2009 by Dr. R. Ruscheweyh in Germany. It aims at identifying the natural sensitivity to pain, through a set of 17 simple questions. These questions simulate daily life situations likely to induce pain of various intensities. The internal validity of the tool had been demonstrated both for the original version in German, and then for its English version. The external validity had also been demonstrated by correlation to real nociceptive stimulations applied to healthy volunteers (German version), and to patients before surgery (English version). A French validation of the questionnaire is needed, in order to integrate it in pain research programs in French-speaking countries.

Avian Hypersensitivity PneumonitisThis study aims at identifying bird proteins useful for diagnostic tests to determine the cause of Bird Fancier's Lung (BFL).
Aspirin Desensitization Registry in Patients With Aspirin Hypersensitivity
Aspirin HypersensitivityData about aspirin desensitization for patients with coronary artery disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention are sparse. This is a prospective, multicenter, observational study including 7 italian centers, to assess safety and feasibility of a standard desensitization protocol in patients with aspirin sensitivity undergoing coronary angiography. Patients with history of aspirin sensitivity undergoing coronary angiography are prospectively enrolled. All patients underwent the desensitization procedure with six sequential doses of aspirin (1, 5, 10, 20, 40, and 100 mg) administered orally at predefined intervals, with the procedure lasting 5.5 hours. All patients are followed for desensitization procedure success, description of reactions due to the desensitization procedure, and in hospital major adverse cardiac events (MACE). All patients are also followed-up for 12 months in order to assess their long-term risk of MACE, compliance with ASA therapy, and late occurrence of side reactions due to ASA sensitivity.
Vitamin K and Glucose Metabolism in Adults at Risk for Diabetes (Vita-K 'n' Adults Study)
ObesityInsulin Resistance3 moreGiven that glutamate carboxylation or decarboxylation is key to the metabolic role of osteocalcin (at least in mouse models) and that carboxylation is vitamin K dependent, it is critical to isolate the effect of vitamin K manipulation on carboxylation of osteocalcin and its subsequent effect on glucose metabolism in clinical trials. The purpose of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial in adults is to determine whether eight weeks of daily supplementation with vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7) can improve markers in blood associated with diabetes risk.
