A Pilot Study to Substantiate the Use of the Jay Sensitivity Sensor Probe

Dentine Sensitivity

Subjects with at least two teeth with dentinal hypersensitivity and who meet the study criteria will be enrolled onto this double blind, randomised, parallel, controlled clinical trial. After enrolment, suitable subjects will use a fluoride toothpaste for 4 weeks (wash out period). Baseline dentine hypersensitivity assessments will be conducted using tactile stimuli, air blast, and VAS methods. Tactile methods of assessment will include use of the Yeaple Probe and the Jay Sensitivity Sensor probe. Air blast assessments will be conducted using the Schiff cold air sensitivity scale. The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) questionnaire will be completed at four defined time points during the study. The baseline assessments will be conducted on the two teeth identified during the screening visit. On completion of the baseline assessments, subjects will be randomly assigned to product. Dentinal hypersensitivity assessments will be repeated after 18, 28 and 56 days of product use.

Non-Celiac Wheat Sensitivity: Permanent or Transient Condition?

Non-Celiac Wheat Sensitivity

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) has been recently included among the gluten-related diseases. Patients suffering from NCGS are diagnosed after carefully excluding celiac disease (CD), and immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated wheat allergy. Then, in the absence of sensitive and specific diagnostic biomarkers for NCGS, a monitoring of the patient during elimination and re-introduction of wheat by a double-blind placebo controlled (DBPC) challenge method has been suggested as diagnostic hallmark. Some studies seem to suggest that wheat components other than gluten can cause the symptoms, and therefore the term "non-celiac wheat sensitivity" (NCWS) has been proposed instead of NCGS. While it is well known that CD is a long-life condition and a strict adherence to the gluten-free diet must be maintained, it is unknown whether this is valid for NCWS. On the year 2012, the researchers published a retrospective study, including 276 patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)-like symptoms who had been diagnosed with NCWS using a DBPC challenge during a ten-years period (2001-2011). The present prospective study aimed to evaluate: A) how many of these patients are still following a wheat-free diet, and B) which percentage was still suffering from NCWS, diagnosed by DBPC wheat challenge, in a subgroup of that cohort.

Fatty Liver Imaging Project

Determine the Number of Anatomical Sites at Which Successful Thermoacoustic Fat Measurements Can be Made From Five Acquisitions Using the FLIP ITA DeviceDetermine the Correlation of Fat Measures Obtained by the FLIP Device and Those Obtained From Quantitative MRI2 more

This study is being done to test the FLIP device, a novel device developed and manufactured by Endra Life Sciences, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The purpose of the device is to measure the fat content of liver tissue to assist in the diagnosis of fatty liver disease. This feasibility study will involve 25 healthy volunteers having their liver imaged by traditional ultrasound and MRI methods as well as using the FLIP device. The data obtained by the FLIP will be compared with the data obtained by ultrasound and MRI in order to determine the effectiveness of the device. This is a preliminary study to see if the investigational device could eventually be used to image the liver alongside traditional ultrasound for discerning fat concentration.

Penicillin Allergy Testing and Resensitization Rate

Penicillin Allergy

Penicillin is one of the earliest discovered antibiotics and a drug of choice for several infections. Up to 10 to 20% of all patients in clinical trial are labeled as penicillin allergic. Most of these patients do not have a true allergy but few have had it verified. Approximately 80% of patients with IgE-mediated penicillin allergy lose their sensitivity after 10 years. Several studies have been conducted denying the risk of sensitization following negative testing of penicillin allergy. Investigators have not had the same experience and have therefore decided to conduct a retrospective study review of 83 adult outpatients with a distant penicillin allergy label and evaluate outcomes of skin retesting six weeks following Drug Provocation Test and challenge.

Effect of Low-Level Laser Therapy Following Direct Pulp Capping on Postoperative Sensitivity by...

Low-level Laser Therapy

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on postoperative pain provoked by thermal stimulation in direct pulp capping. All the patients who received consent form in this retrospective study were retrieved from the records of patients attended for routine dental treatment at the Ordu University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Endodontics between 01.10.2017-01.10.2018. Study subjects were recruited from the pool of patients who performed direct pulp capping by a single operator. A total of 123 pre-treated teeth of 123 patients who referred to Ordu University, Faculty of Dentistry were examined. Follow-up examinations were carried out at postoperative 6th hours, 1st and 7th days with visual analog scale (VAS), and treatment outcome were assessed. Participants were allocated to the laser and control group which consist of 42 patients in each group. 6 patients were excluded from the study due to missing data in both groups. Thus, data from 72 patients who had been carried out direct pulp capping were assessed.

Interest of the Second Phase of the Oral Challenge Test in Patients With Suspected Long-standing...

Allergy Penicillin

The most common drug allergy reported is penicillin allergy, approximately 10% of the world's population. According to the latest studies, only 1-2% of them have a proven hypersensitivity to penicillins. Being wrongly labeled "allergic" leads to a loss of chance for patients to be treated with a molecule of less efficacy than penicillins, an increase in bacterial resistance by broadening the spectrum of action of the molecules prescribed as an alternative and ultimately a additional financial cost. There are several forms of hypersensitivity: the two most classic: immediate hypersensitivity (type I according to Gell and Combs) with a reaction within an hour of taking and non-immediate hypersensitivity with a reaction occurring several days later (type IV according to Gell and Combs). A large majority of patients report a history of allergy in childhood that is poorly described and most often absent from health records. In most cases, this may be a viral rash concomitant with a febrile episode mistakenly mistaken for an allergic skin reaction. Patients are then tested for several decades, in adulthood, after their initial reaction. This latency of time involves a risk of negativation of the allergic tests and it is not excluded that the skin tests or drug reintroductions re cause sensitization to the antibiotic tested and that ultimately the patient reacts when taking the future drug. In fact, it is recommended to optimally explore patients approximately 6 months after an allergic reaction (except for severe drug eruptions). The exploration of drug hypersensitivity to penicillins therefore involves a strict questioning of the circumstances of the so-called allergic reaction allowing the reaction to be classified as immediate or delayed, then skin tests (prick test, IDR and Patch test according to the immediate profile or delayed) and finally the hospital provocation test. While provocation tests are carried out conventionally most often within one day, it has been shown that some patients react several days after taking penicillin repeatedly: 6.1% have a reaction in their protocol of taking for 5 days at home in the context of a delayed allergy. In the allergology service at hôpital Paris Saint-Joseph, the protocol corresponds to 2 successive reintroductions. This study is to evaluate the protocol for reintroducing Amoxicillin or Augmentin carried out over two stages: a first with 100 mg (i.e. 1 / 10th of a dose) then a second with a dose of 1200 mg 1 month later. It would be a question of seeing if with the second reintroduction, one could not catch up with allergic people who would have presented a false negative during the first reintroduction because of explorations too far away from their initial reaction.
