Genetic Determinant of Blood Pressure Sensitivity to Salt Intake

Hypertension

Nedd4.2 is a regulator of ENac, a transporter of sodium involved in the regulation of salt retention by the kidney. The study address the consequence of a frequent genetic variation leading expected to impact the function of Nedd4 and in turn, the ability of kidneys to excrete salt intake. Our hypothesis is that the genetic variants of Nedd4.2 could constitute a genetic predisposition to (or protection against) salt-sensitive hypertension.

Comparative Study of the Effects of Telmisartan and Nebivolol

Hypertension

Τhe effectiveness of newer angiotensin-II receptor blockers and cardioselective beta-adrenergic blockers in treatment of arterial hypertension and in improvement of arterial stiffness has been established in previous studies among the hypertensive population. The present study is a comparison of the performance of two drugs, telmisartan and nebivolol, in 24h ambulatory blood pressure values and in the degree of arterial stiffness of patients with stage I arterial hypertension. Measurements will be carried out with the use of 24-h ambulatory blood pressure measurement devices and the method of pulse-wave velocity analysis. The effects of telmisartan and nebivolol are going to be compared for a total time period of 12 months. The aim of this project is to determine whether the expected decrease in arterial stiffness of subjects with stage I arterial hypertension can be attributed to the blood pressure fall solely, or to other factors as well. These factors are possibly dependent on the action of these drugs on the renin-angiotensin II-aldosterone system (RAAS) or on peripheral vasodilatory actions. The present study is going to be the first comparative test of the anti-hypertensive effects of the two pharmaceutical substances in 12 months' time, and of the elimination of total cardiovascular risk in terms of primary prevention of cardiovascular attacks.

Efficacy and Safety Study of Sodium Tanshinone IIA Sulfonate on Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary HypertensionPulmonary Arterial Hypertension3 more

Sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate (STS) is a water-soluble derivative of tanshinone IIA isolated as the main pharmacologically active natural compound from a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, the dried root of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge known as Danshen. Danshen has been known for the function of improving body functions such as activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. Danshen and its various formula products including STS have been long-time widely used in oriental countries, especially China to treat various inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases for its pharmacological actions, including vasodilatation, anticoagulation, anti-inflammation, and free radical scavenging, with negligible adverse effects observed. The investigator's objective is to evaluate whether STS exhibits beneficial effects on pulmonary hypertension. This is a randomized, controlled, multicentre clinical trial study. 90 patients with pulmonary hypertension will be enrolled in this study.
