Atacand (Candesartan) Real Life Study

Hypertension

This study is a Swedish historical cohort study in patients prescribed Atacand or Cozaar for hypertension by selected primary care centres. Data will be extracted anonymously from electronic medical records. In addition, data regarding morbidity and mortality will be collected by merging the cohort with the following national registries: the Hospital Discharge Register (Slutenvårdsregistret), the Cause of Death Register and the Heart Intensive Care Admission (RIKS-HIA)

Treatment for Prevention of Variceal Rebleeding Guided by the Hemodynamic Response

Portal HypertensionComplications of Cirrhosis

This is a prospective trial of random distribution, open, parallel group, in which patients with esophagic variceal bleeding will be randomized into two treatment groups, after controlling acute bleeding. All patients received standard medical therapy with b-blockers and endoscopic ligation (LEV) of esophageal varices. The control group will be assigned to receive LEV + Nadolol + MNI. The experimental group will be assigned to receive treatment according to the hemodynamic response. All patients included in the experimental group received LEV and pharmacological treatment nadolol alone or combined with MNI or Prazosin (PZ)

Analyzing How Genetics May Affect Response to High Blood Pressure Medications

HypertensionCoronary Disease1 more

High blood pressure is one of the most common health problems in the United States. There are many medications to treat high blood pressure, but there is a large variance in how people respond to these medications. It is believed that genetic variations may contribute to the inconsistent treatment response. This study will use genetic analysis to determine whether particular genes interact with high blood pressure medications to modify the risk of certain cardiovascular diseases.

Melatonin and Adiponectin in Hypertensive Kidney Transplant

HypertensionKidney Transplant

Recently we have shown that melatonin secretion is impaired in rats with metabolic syndrome. We have also demonstrated that exogenic melatonin supplementation can improve blood pressure profile in nondipper patients. The aim of this study is to find whether there is a difference between melatonin secretion in hypertensive kidney recipients versus "normal" hypertensive patients. Secondly, to ask if there is any correlation between melatonin secretion and adiponectin levels.

Genetic and Environmental Characteristics of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension

Lung DiseasesHypertension1 more

The goal of this study is to identify the modifying genes and environmental features that regulate the clinical expression of mutations in bone morphogenetic protein receptor 2 (BMPR2); to develop the understanding of how BMPR2 mutations result in disease; and to identify the undiscovered genetic mutations that cause primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH).
