The Prospective Risk Factor Evaluation & Discovery In CTEPH Study

Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension

This research study wants to find markers in the blood that may help to predict a patient's future risk of developing a disease called CTEPH. The study also wants to see if active monitoring for signs and symptoms of CTEPH after a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs) can improve the diagnosis of CTEPH. Patients who enroll in this study will have periodic blood draws and clinic and/or phone follow-up to monitor for signs and symptoms of CTEPH. Patients' medical records will also be reviewed for information related to pulmonary embolisms and/or CTEPH.

Establishment and Assessment of the HVPG Using Biofluid Mechanics (HVPGBFM)

Liver CirrhosisHypertension1 more

This study is a prospective, non-controlled, multicentre trial in patients with cirrhosis or portal hypertension. In this study, the investigators aim to establish the HVPG using biofluid mechanics (HVPGBFM) model using biofluid mechanics methods and validate the HVPGBFM model. A total of 200 patients will be recruited in this study and each patient will undergo computed tomography, blood tests, Doppler ultrasound and HVPG measurement. The study consists of two independent and consecutive cohorts: original cohort (100 patients) and validation cohort (100 patients). The researchers will establish and improve the HVPGBFM model in the original cohort and assess the model in the validation cohort.

Retrospective Data Analysis of Data From the Zurich PH Registry

Pulmonary HypertensionChronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension1 more

The collected data from the Zurich Registry for pulmonary Hypertension (PH) are evaluated in a retrospective analysis. This study examines the number of patients and their exact diagnoses who are treated at the University Hospital of Zurich and potentially other participating in the Zurich Registry. Other demographic parameters such as age, gender and body-mass-index are also part of the evaluation. Furthermore, the analysis will focus on the newest guidelines on PH. Therefore, it will be checked how many patients would fulfill the therapeutic goals in terms of New York Heart Classification (NYHA), 6-minute walk distance, sign of right heart failure and N-terminal pro-brain-natriuretic peptide(NTproBNP). Additionally, the study examines on how the patients are treated. Despite the different kind of Drugs, the focus lies on the combination therapy (single, double, triple) and the impact the therapy had on the patients.

Differentiation HHD From HCM (EARLY-MYO-HHD)

Hypertrophic CardiomyopathyHypertensive Heart Disease

Differentiating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) from hypertensive heart disease (HHD) unavoidably encounters diagnostic challenges especially in patient of suspected HCM with history of hypertension. Diverse and overlapping forms of HCM can often lead to ambiguity when diagnosis is based on a single genetic or morphological index. The investigators have deduced a integrated formula based on cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging and established a differentiating flow-chart between HCM and HHD, the investigators aim to identify their method in the current multi-center trial.

Prevalence of Hypertension in Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus

Prevalence of Elevated Blood Pressure in Type-2 Diabetics

Cardiovascular disease is the most prevalent cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. Hypertension has been confirmed as a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, which is frequently associated with diabetes mellitus. Therefore, the detection and management of elevated blood pressure (BP) is a critical component of the comprehensive clinical management of diabetics. Since the rates of hypertension in diabetics are lacking in Afghanistan, this study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of elevated blood pressure in type-2 diabetic patients.

Bedside Monitoring to Identify Impaired Cerebral Autoregulation in Women With Postpartum Hypertension...

PreeclampsiaHypertension in Pregnancy

The purpose of this research study is to develop a protocol for NIRS-based bedside monitoring to identify impaired cerebral autoregulation in women admitted to the high-risk obstetrics unit with postpartum hypertension. The investigators will then pilot this protocol in 10 patients with high-risk neurological features, such as headache.

The Impact of Dementia and Neurocognitive Disorders on Hypertension Treatment in the Elderly

Neurocognitive DisordersDementia3 more

Neurocognitive disorders and hypertension occur commonly with aging. While, by definition, older adults are at high cardiovascular risk, there is no guideline exist currently on blood pressure management of elderly hypertension. However, studies have shown that in aging adults, high blood pressure helps prevent against cognitive decline, and low blood pressure on antihypertensive drugs could accelerate it. This study aims at investigating if pharmacological treatment of hypertension in the very elderly is influenced by presence and severity of neurocognitive disorders. Our research hypothesis is that the drug management of hypertension in patients 80 years of age or older more is all the less aggressive as the neurocognitive disorders are advanced.
