Study of a Tetravalent Dengue Vaccine in Healthy Children Aged 2 to 11 Years in Malaysia

Dengue FeverDengue Hemorrhagic Fever

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of Phase III lots of the CYD dengue vaccine in a pediatric population in Malaysia. Primary Objectives: To describe the safety (in terms of solicited and unsolicited adverse events) of the CYD dengue vaccine in all participants after each injection. To describe the antibody response to each dengue virus serotype post-injection 2 and post-injection 3.

Study of a Novel Tetravalent Dengue Vaccine in Healthy Children and Adolescents Aged 9 to 16 Years...

Dengue FeverDengue Hemorrhagic Fever1 more

The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy of Sanofi Pasteur's CYD dengue vaccine in preventing symptomatic virologically-confirmed dengue cases for dengue-endemic areas of Latin America. Primary Objective: To assess the efficacy of CYD dengue vaccine after 3 vaccinations at 0, 6, and 12 months in preventing symptomatic virologically-confirmed dengue (VCD) cases, regardless of the severity, due to any of the four serotypes in children and adolescents aged 9 to 16 years at the time of inclusion. Secondary Objectives: To describe the efficacy of CYD dengue vaccine in preventing symptomatic VCD cases after the third dose to the end of the Active Phase, after at least 1 dose, and after 2 doses. To describe the occurrence of hospitalized VCD cases and the occurrence of severe (clinically severe or as per World Health Organization (WHO) criteria) VCD cases, throughout the Surveillance Expansion Period (SEP) and throughout the trial (from Day 0 until the end of the study). To describe the antibody response to each dengue serotype after Dose 2, after Dose 3, and 1 and 5 years after Dose 3. To describe the occurrence of serious adverse events (SAEs), including SAEs of special interest in all participants throughout the trial period.

Cryo Pack Cooling After Exercise-induced Hyperthermia

Hyperthermia

This research study aims to examine whether Cryo Cooling packs reduce thermal and cardiovascular strain after exercise-induced hyperthermia compared to a commercially available ice pack. Secondly, the effect of Cryo Cooling packs on cognitive and exercise performance will be examined. There is no current research examining the efficacy of Cryo Cooling packs in hyperthermic individuals and this information will be helpful to establish whether Cryo Cooling Packs can be used for performance enhancement or to prevent heat illness.

Immunogenicity and Safety of a Tetravalent Dengue Vaccine Administered Concomitantly or Sequentially...

Dengue FeverDengue Hemorrhagic Fever1 more

The aim of this study was to investigate the immunogenicity and safety of CYD dengue vaccine and Cervarix when administered concomitantly or sequentially in healthy female participants aged 9-14 years of age. Primary objectives: To demonstrate that the humoral immune response (in terms of geometric mean titers [GMTs]) to Cervarix after concomitant administration with the CYD dengue vaccine is non-inferior to the humoral immune response (in terms of GMTs) after sequential administration with the CYD dengue vaccine measured 28 days after the last dose of Cervarix. To demonstrate that the humoral immune response (in terms of GMTs) to the CYD dengue vaccine after concomitant administration with Cervarix is non-inferior to the humoral immune response (in terms of GMTs) to the CYD dengue vaccine after sequential administration with Cervarix measured 28 days after the last dose of the CYD dengue vaccine. Secondary Objectives: To demonstrate that the humoral immune response (in terms of seroconversion) to Cervarix after concomitant administration with the CYD dengue vaccine is non-inferior to the humoral immune response (in terms of seroconversion) to Cervarix sequential administration with the CYD dengue vaccine measured 28 days after the last dose of Cervarix. To describe the humoral immune response to Cervarix at baseline and after each dose of Cervarix in each and any group. To describe the humoral immune response to the CYD dengue vaccine at baseline and after each dose of the CYD dengue vaccine, in each and any group. To describe the safety of Cervarix and CYD dengue vaccine after each and any dose in each group.

A Trial to Evaluate the Safety, Reactogenicity, and Immunogenicity of MVA-BN Yellow Fever Vaccine...

Yellow FeverYellow Fever Immunisation

This study is a multi-center, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase I study to evaluate the safety, reactogenicity, tolerability, and immunogenicity of Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic-Yellow Fever (MVA-BN-YF) in Flavivirus-naive healthy male and non-pregnant female adult subjects. There are six dose groups in this study. Subjects who have never received a licensed or investigational smallpox vaccine will be randomized to Groups 1-5 and vaccine administration and follow-up will be conducted in a double-blinded fashion. Subjects who have previously received two, 1 x 10^8 TCID50 doses of Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN) between 19 and 45 days apart by s ubcutaneous (SC) or intramuscular (IM) routes will be enrolled in Group 6 and will be dosed open-label. Since this is a first in human, phase I study, a sentinel cohort will be utilized. The first two subjects (1st sentinel group) one at each clinical site will be randomized to Group 2 or 3 and vaccinated with MVA-BN-YF with or without Montanide ISA 720 adjuvant (ISA 720). Subjects and study personnel will be blinded as to whether ISA 720 was administered. The primary objectives are the: 1) assessment of the safety, tolerability, and reactogenicity of MVA-BN-YF vaccine administered with or without ISA 720; 2) comparison of the safety, tolerability, and reactogenicity of MVA-BN-YF vaccine administered with or without ISA 720 with Yellow Fever Vaccine (YF-VAX) and MVA-BN.

Whole Body Hyperthermia (WBH) as a Rapid Treatment for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia has become an increasingly pressing public health problem in the United States. Although some treatments exist for Fibromyalgia, many individuals suffering with Fibromyalgia do not adequately respond to currently available treatment options, highlighting the need to develop and test new interventions for the disorder. To address this pressing clinical issue, we will conduct a pilot study to determine if Whole Body Hyperthermia (WBH) reduces symptoms in adults suffering from Fibromyalgia. We plan to recruit individuals with Fibromyalgia who will receive a single session of WBH to determine if this single session improves Fibromyalgia symptoms and if so whether this improvement will last at least 2 weeks. To do this, the study will include self-report symptom assessments immediately before and one and two weeks after WBH. In addition blood will be collected at these time points to explore whether WBH changes immune system chemicals that are believed to contribute to fibromyalgia. We intend to conduct the study until 10 individuals with fibromyalgia have received a single treatment of WBH and have completed all pre-treatment and post-treatment assessments. Given scientific evidence from our research group that WBH may improve depression, we anticipate that it may also be of benefit or adults suffering from Fibromyalgia.
