PC-300 Tea Effect on Triglyceride Levels

Hypertriglyceridemia

Herbal medicine represents an alternative for treating dyslipidemia. The aim of this project was to evaluate the PC-300 tea (Eryngium heterophyllum egelm + Amphipterygium adstringens) against hypertriglyceridemia. Baseline samples of serum total cholesterol and triglycerides were obtained and measured again after 1 month of treatment with the following two alternatives: 1) PC-300, one cup half an hour before eating, and 2) bezafibrate 200 mg/d.

A Phase 3 STudy of CaPRe in LOwering Very hiGh TriglYcerides (TRILOGY 2)

Hypertriglyceridemia

The primary objective of this study is to determine the efficacy of CaPre 4 g daily, compared to placebo, in lowering fasting TG levels in subjects with fasting TG levels ≥500 mg/dL and ≤1500 mg/dL (≥5.7 mmol/L and ≤17.0 mmol/L) after 12 weeks of treatment. Approximately 615 subjects will be screened to obtain 245 randomized subjects following a treatment allocation ratio of 2.5:1 (CaPre:placebo).

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Beverage Intervention for Hispanic Adults

ObesityHypercholesterolemia2 more

This study aims to 1) assess the feasibility and acceptability of a prescribed beverage intervention in 50 obese Hispanic adults ages 18-64 years over 6 weeks; and 2) assess preliminary effects of the beverage intervention on cholesterol and triglyceride levels as well as other markers of health such as blood pressure, glucose and markers of inflammation. This project, if successful, will provide early evidence that targeting dietary behavior around beverage intake could be a novel and easily adopted approach to reduce the burden or delay the onset of metabolic abnormalities in obese Hispanic adults. The expected outcome of the proposed project is the identification of feasible and appropriate beverage intervention strategies to improve engagement and adherence to dietary modification approaches for control of metabolic health indicators in this vulnerable ethnic group.
