Clinical Evaluation of Postoperative Healing After Conventional And Laser Assisted Frenectomy Operations...

Frenulum; HypertrophyLip

The aim of this randomized controlled parallel-designed study was to evaluate clinical healing and patient comfort after conventional and diode laser assisted frenectomy operations in case of high papillary frenulum attachment. Forty-eight patients with high papillary frenulum attachments were included in the study. Patients were randomly divided into three groups; conventional frenectomy operation (Group C), frenectomy operation using diode laser (Group L) and diode laser asissted frenectomy with horizontal incision on the periosteum (Group L+P). Postoperative pain, difficulty in speaking and eating scores were assessed postoperative 3 hours and 1, 7, 14, 21 and 45 days using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Evaluation of epithelialization of the wound surface was carried out via hydrogen peroxide to the surface using a dental injector at postoperative 7, 14, 21 and 45 days. Plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing and probing depth were assessed at baseline and postoperative 7, 14, 21 and 45 days. All data were compared between groups and within each group.

Histological Analysis of Osteogenic Potential of Biphasic Calcium Phosphate

Alveolar Ridge EnlargementFenestration1 more

Bone healing after tooth extraction may be affected by defects in the buccal wall of the alveolus, such as fenestrations and dehiscences. Therefore, it is advisable to perform a surgical procedure such as guided bone regeneration after tooth extractions. Different biomaterials are used for this purpose. The aim of this study is to investigate the qualitative and quantitative histological changes in human biopsies taken after 6 months of healing of extraction sockets with buccal wall defects. For this purpose, the defects of 36 patients (18 per group) will be augmented with injectable biphasic calcium phosphate (I-BCP) or bovine xenograft (BX) after extraction. After six months of healing, bone biopsies will be taken and processed to the qualitative and quantitative histological analysis.

Pain Perception and Wound Healing After Laser-assisted Frenectomy in Children

Frenulum; Hypertrophy

This study is based on the records of the patients treated for labial frenectomy with a dental laser at the Department of Padiatric Dentistry from January 2017 to December 2017. Patients younger than 15 years were included and in total 22 patients who matched the inclusion criteria were investigated in the study. The analyzed data included age, gender, frenelum insertion type, type of dental laser, and postoperative pain perception.

Comparison of Two Pre-prosthetic Surgical Techniques for Augmentation of Mandibular Vertical Ridge...

Alveolar Ridge Enlargement

The aim of this study is to compare two pre-prosthetic surgical techniques for augmentation of vertical mandibular ridge defects in preparation for implant placement, the first using customized ceramic membranes and the second using tenting titanium screws in conjunction with particulate bone graft and collagen membrane (modified sausage technique).

Reduced Contractile Reserve: a Therapeutic Target in Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction(HFpEF)...

Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection FractionPulmonary Disease1 more

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for over 50% of heart failure cases in the United States, affecting a primarily elderly population. No treatment has been shown to affect mortality in HFpEF, which is more than 50% at five years a hospitalization. This project explores the underlying cardiovascular physiology of patients with HFpEF with the goal of identifying new therapeutic targets that would allow improved treatment of this devastating disease.

Acupuncture for Tonsillectomy Pain

ChildrenPostoperative Pain3 more

Pain after tonsillectomy can be severe and last ten days. Various new surgical instruments have been developed over the years in an attempt to reduce postoperative pain with mixed results and increased costs; no single tonsillectomy technique is superior to the rest. Patients are discharged to home usually on the day of surgery and often suffer significant pain and nausea. Pain medication is often prescribed which can cause nausea, vomiting and constipation. Children in pain are reluctant to take in fluids and may require intravenous hydration at an emergency department. "Battlefield acupuncture " has been recently developed by the US Air Force and is now being used in Iraq and Afghanistan on wounded warriors suffering severe acute pain from trauma. This protocol consists of five acupuncture points on the outer ear. A recent study has demonstrated decreased pain and agitation in children undergoing ear tube insertion. Ear tube patients have mild discomfort compared to tonsillectomy patients and are able to attend school the next day. The investigators have been encouraged by the benefits of acupuncture during surgery for ear tube patients and also wounded warriors recovering from their injuries. These findings motivated us to see if acupuncture during tonsillectomy surgery would result in less pain and nausea.

Laparoscopic Versus Open Pyloromyotomy for Infants With Idiopathic Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis...

Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

Pyloric stenosis is a condition that develops in infants and that leads to an obstruction of the channel going out of the stomach. This study is being performed to determine if there is an advantage to the laparoscopic approach or the open approach for the surgical correction of the enlarged pylorus.

Impact of Liwen Procedure in Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy on Arrhythmias

Hypertrophic CardiomyopathyArrhythmia

The goal of this observational study is to learn about the occurrence of various arrhythmias ( tachyarrhythmia and bradyarrhythmia ) during or after Percutaneous Intramyocardial Septal Radiofrequency Ablation. The main questions it aims to answer are: To investigate the occurrence of various arrhythmias ( tachyarrhythmia and bradyarrhythmia ) during procedure and its relationship with clinical characteristics and procedural parameters To analyze the changes of 12-lead electrocardiogram and 24-hour dynamic electrocardiogram before and after Percutaneous Intramyocardial Septal Radiofrequency Ablation and their relationships with clinical characteristics and procedural parameters
