Evaluation of the NV-VPAC1 Prostate Cancer (PCa) Urine Diagnostic Test in Subjects With Biopsy-confirmed...

Prostate CancerBenign Prostatic Hypertrophy2 more

This is a double-blind, study to evaluate the performance of NV-VPAC1 PCa Urine Diagnostic Test in three distinct populations being treated at the Intermountain Urology Clinic. The first population (positive control) is comprised of men with biopsy-confirmed PCa who are scheduled for prostatectomy. The second population (negative control) is comprised of men with benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) who are scheduled for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). The third population (negative control) is comprised of men or women with bladder/kidney stones who are scheduled for a cystoscopy.

Reduction of Breast Enlargement Using the Da Vinci Xi Robot

Breast Hypertrophy

Breast enlargement reductions are frequent interventions. One of the main issue associated with this surgery remains the ransom scar, wide at the periareolar level, vertical at the subareolar level and in the submammary groove. The expected result is to achieve a reduction in breast enlargement with no visible scar using Da Da Vinci Xi robot.

Serum Sclerostin Levels, Cardiovascular Parameters and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in Maintenance Hemodialysis...

Chronic Kidney DiseaseRenal Osteodystrophy1 more

Sclerostin, the product of the SOST gene, located on chromosome 17, locus q11.2 in humans, was originally believed to be a non-classical Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) antagonist.Sclerostin was recently identified as a component of parathyroid hormone (PTH) signal transduction. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with abnormalities in bone and mineral metabolism.New advances in the pathogenesis of renal osteodystrophy (ROD) change the perspective from which many of its features and treatment are viewed. Calcium, phosphate, parathyroid hormone (PTH), and vitamin D have been shown to be important determinants of survival associated with kidney diseases. Now ROD dependent and independent of these factors is linked to survival more than just skeletal frailty.Furthermore, ROD is shown to be an underappreciated factor in the level of the serum phosphorus in CKD. The discovery and the elucidation of the mechanism of hyperphosphatemia as a cardiovascular risk in CKD change the view of ROD. Emerging current data suggests a promising role for serum measurements of sclerostin in addition to iPTH in the diagnosis of high bone turnover in chronic kidney disease-5D patients (dialysis patients). Because of the close relationship between ROD and cardiovascular disease, the aim of this study is to investigate the association between sclerostin, arteriovenous fistula thrombosis, echocardiography and carpal tunnel syndrome in maintenance hemodialysis patients.

The Relationship Among, Serum Uric Acid, Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and Metabolic Syndrome

HyperuricemiaHealthy

Hyperuricemia is associated with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risks in diverse of the population. Whether the dose-response effects on the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and cardiometabolic risks is unclear. The present study is conducted to investigate the relationship between serum uric acid and the prevalence metabolic syndrome and left ventricular hypertrophy.

The Influence of Feeding Position on Pulmonary Morbidity in Young Children

Pulmonary DiseasesTonsillar Hypertrophy2 more

Supine feeding position is associated with serous otitis media. The hypothesis is that supine feeding is associated with recurrent otitis media, tonsillar and adenoid hypertrophy and recurrent pneumonia secondary to recurrent aspiration.

Risk Factors for Ligamentum Flavum Hypertrophy in Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Patients

Lumbar Spinal Stenosis

To measure ligamentum flavum thickness in patients with different nationalities, sexes, heights, ages, and weights from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China with CT, explore the correlation between various factors and ligamentum flavum thickness, provide reference for pedicle screw placement and lumbar decompression surgery, develop individualized surgical programs, and can effectively reduce the incidence of unnecessary postoperative complications induced by misplacement.

Postnatal Steroids Effects on Cardiac Function in Extremely Preterm

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

Hypothesis/Study question In infants born at less than 29 weeks of estimated gestational age, what are the effects of dexamethasone use on cardiac structure/performance and lung water content? Study objectives To measure effects before and after dexamethasone administration on cardiac structure/performance will be evaluated by using the M-mode technique (Devereux method (25-27) and lung water content will be specifically determined by the degree of water retention in premature lungs assessed by lung ultrasound at the pre specified time points. Methodology / Study design Single center, prospective observational cohort study planning to enroll eligible patients over a period of 12 months

Longitudinal Analysis of Right Ventricular Remodeling in Response to Prolonged Strength Training...

Cardiac RemodelingVentricular1 more

Right ventricular (RV) physiological remodeling in response to prolonged strength exercise remains poorly studied. This prospective, non-randomized, single-center study, proposes to follow 24 healthy sedentary volunteers who will benefit from a high-intensity pure resistance training program over a 6-month period. The volunteers, aged between 18 and 40 years old and male, will be recruited and evaluated at the University Hospital center of Caen Normandy. Cardiac remodeling in response to physical exercise will be analyzed by trans-thoracic echocardiography repeated during the follow-up. The physical impact of the training program will be assessed by a treadmill exercise test predicting maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) before and after completing the training, and an isokinetic muscular test repeated every 3 months. Participants rest/activity cycles will be monitor before and after 3 months of training. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the existence of a physiologic RV remodeling in response to pure high-load resistance chronic exercise. The results will help to improve the understanding of the physiological RV response expected in strength athletes.

Refining Information Technology Support for Genetics in Medicine

Hypertrophic CardiomyopathyHearing Loss1 more

The clinical use of genetic testing is expanding and, as a result, the number of variants identified in patients is growing. Knowledge of the clinical impact of these variants improves over time. However, the combination of more testing and the rapid evolution of genetic knowledge make it impossible for clinicians to fully account for the latest implications of their patients' genetic profiles as patient care decisions are made. This proposed study plans to enhance and evaluate IT infrastructure developed to provide timely genetic variant updates and patient search functionality to clinicians to assist in optimizing patient care.

MRI Sequence and Imaging Protocol Development

CardiomyopathyHypertrophic5 more

The purpose of this study is to develop imaging protocols when using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) to assess cardiac functions, morphology and tissue characterization. The National Heart Research Institute Singapore (NHRIS) houses two dedicated CMR scanners to support the numerous investigator initiated projects in patients with various cardiac pathologists. By optimizing novel CMR sequences used in these studies, scanning time can be shortened for patients with underlying cardiac diseases.
