The Effect of Prolonged Pramlintide Infusion in Pediatric Diabetes
Type 1 DiabetesThe purpose of this study is to see if reducing the dose of insulin before a meal and giving both pramlintide and insulin as dual wave infusions will lower the chance of low blood sugars after a meal. In addition, the study will look at giving pramlintide as a basal infusion (a very low steady dose) for several hours
Comparison of Insulin Detemir With NPH Insulin in Type 1 Diabetes
DiabetesDiabetes Mellitus1 moreThis trial is conducted in Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and South America. The aim of this research study is to compare the efficacy (reduction in HbA1c and in blood glucose levels) of insulin detemir compared to NPH insulin administered as basal insulin for the treatment of type 1 diabetes and to verify the safety of use (number and severity of episodes of hypoglycemia, body weight, and insulin antibodies and side effects).
Comparison of the Ability of Glulisine With Lispro to Control Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in Children...
Diabetes MellitusInsulin-DependentThe purpose of this study is to determine if insulin glulisine (Apidra) is as safe and effective a rapid acting insulin as insulin lispro (Humalog) in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Study of Human Insulin Inhalation Powder in Patients With Type 1 Diabetes
Diabetes MellitusType 1This is a phase 3, open-label, randomized study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Lilly/Alkermes inhaled insulin system compared to injected pre-meal insulin in non-smoking patients with type 1 diabetes. Patients will be treated for 24 months with a 2-month follow-up period.
Safety and Efficacy of NovoLog vs. Humalog in Insulin Pumps in Children and Adolescents
DiabetesDiabetes Mellitus1 moreThis trial is conducted in the United States of America (USA). It is demonstrated that intensive insulin therapy resulting in good glycaemic control can reduce or delay the incidence of complications secondary to Type 1 Diabetes. Insulin Aspart (NovoLog®) is an ideal insulin to use in an intensive insulin regimen using continuous subcutaneous insulin injection (CSII) therapy in the pediatric and adolescent age population. This trial compares the safety and efficacy of Insulin Aspart (NovoLog®) and Insulin Lispro (Humalog®) delivered by CSII in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.
Continuous Glucose Monitors for Children With Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes MellitusInsulin-DependentGood control of blood glucose levels is important in preventing complications from diabetes. This study assessed the accuracy and reliability of two FDA-approved continuous glucose monitors, the Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS) and the GlucoWatch G2 Biographer (GW2B), in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).
Interferon-Alpha for Diabetes Mellitus Type 1
Insulin-Dependent Diabetes MellitusThis study will see if interferon-alpha given early in the disease can stop or slow the immune attack on insulin-producing cells. In addition, the study will examine the safety and efficacy of interferon-alpha (given by mouth) to protect beta cell function. Patients between 3 and 25 years of age with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus less then six weeks may be eligible for this study. All study-related tests and medications at the NIH Clinical Center are provided at no cost.
Treatment for Symptomatic Peripheral Neuropathy in Patients With Diabetes
Diabetic NeuropathiesDiabetes Mellitus3 moreThe purpose of this protocol is to determine if an investigational drug is effective in treating nerve malfunction in diabetes.
Garmin PACT (Physical Activity Tracking in Type 1 Diabetes Using Garmin Vivosmart)
Type 1 DiabetesThe goal of this observational study is to test the Garmin Vivosmart in children and youth (8-21) with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and their parents. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does the Garmin Vivosmart increase physical activity (PA)? Does the Garmin Vivosmart improve T1D status Participants will: Wear the Garmin Vivosmart (4 or higher) for a year Complete surveys at the beginning, middle and end of participation asking about your T1D, T1D management, and PA Parents of children will also complete similar surveys about T1D
CloudCare in the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes in Pediatrics
Type1diabetesPediatric ALLThis prospective cohort study aims to estimate the effect of the CloudCare application in daily practice on treatment satisfaction and emotional burden for pediatric patients and their parents/caregivers, patients' glycemic control (glucometrics), healthcare professional satisfaction, and the impact on costs. A total of 600 pediatric patients (1-15 years) with type 1 diabetes will be enrolled into the study.
