Acceptability of HPV Self-sampling Among Canadian Women Aged 21 to 65

HPV InfectionCervical Cancer Screening

We propose a cross-sectional study to explore the acceptability and feasibility of HPV self-sampling among Quebec women. The study will invite eligible women to self-sample for HPV at home. The HPV risk factors of patients included in the study will be taken into consideration (vaccination, smoking, number of partners, date of last screening, etc.).

Estimating Risk of Respiratory Infections Attributable to CFTR Heterozygosity

Carrier StateRespiratory Infections

A research team member will brush the inferior surface of the subjects' middle turbinate (nasal cavity) using a cytology brush to obtain the cells needed to perform our functional respiratory assays. An individual trained in phlebotomy will draw one 3 ml lavender top tube of blood to test c-reactive protein, calprotectin, and lactoferrin. They will also draw a 5 ml gold top serum separator tube of blood to test fibroblast growth factor-19. The participant will answer questions from the baseline survey and report their current medications interview-style with the research team member.

The Association of Gut Microbiota With COVID 19 Infection in Children

Coronavirus InfectionsGut Microbiome1 more

Although COVID-19 infects gastrointestinal tissues, little is known about the roles of gut commensal microbes in susceptibility to and severity of infection. The investigators will analyze the alterations in fecal microbiomes of patients with COVID-19 infection during hospitalization.

Research About Impact of HPV Integration on the Prognosis of Women With Persistent HR-HPV Infection...

HPV InfectionLSIL4 more

Clinically, patients with persistent HR-HPV infection for more than 18 months or HR-HPV infection with CIN2 + need regular colposcopic biopsy to assess the outcome and progression of the disease. A total of 1000 participants with persistent HR-HPV infection (100 cases/center) were recruited from multiple centers, and HPV integration status and vaginal flora diversity were sequenced at baseline, 6th month, 12th month and 24th month, respectively, through prospective cohort studies. And to evaluate the influence of HPV integration status and flora changes on the prognosis of women with persistent HR-HPV infection.

Active Screening of Latent Tuberculosis Infection in School Contacts of Active Tuberculosis Patients...

TuberculosisLatent Tuberculosis Infection

The goal of this observational study is to investigate the proportion of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection in school contacts of active tuberculosis (ATB) patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: the proportion of MTB infection among school contacts of ATB patients risk factors related to tuberculosis (TB) infection health economic evaluation of screening strategy

Inflammatory and Infectious Diseases of the Nervous System

Brain Disease

Background: - Inflammation is how the body reacts to infection or injury. Infections or inflammation in the brain and nerves can be serious. There aren t always good tests to detect this. Researchers want to learn more about how diseases affect the brain and nerves to develop better tests and treatments. Objective: - To learn more about how inflammation and infections hurt the brain and nervous system. Eligibility: - People at least 2 years old with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of nervous system infection or inflammation. Design: For some participants, a clinician outside of NIH will collect blood, tissue, and other samples. These will be sent to NIH and analyzed. Other participants will have several visits to NIH. Children may not have all these tests. Participants will have: Medical history. Physical and neurological exam. Blood and urine samples collected. Saliva collected. They will chew on a piece of sterile cotton for one minute. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan. The scanner is a metal cylinder in a strong magnetic field. Participants will lie on a table that slides in and out of the cylinder. Participants will get a contrast agent through an intravenous (IV) catheter during the MRI. A needle will be used to guide a thin plastic tube (catheter) into an arm vein. Lumbar puncture. Skin will be numbed and a needle will be inserted into the space between the bones in the back. Fluid will be removed. Some participants may have optional study procedures. These may include eye tests, memory and thinking testing, tests with electrodes on the head, or skin biopsy.

Urinary Tract Infections in Kidney Transplant Recipients

Kidney Transplantation

The purpose of this study is to better estimate the prevalence of urinary tract infections (UTI) in kidney transplant (KIT) recipients, and especially multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria. KIT recipients have a higher risk of UTI over the 6 first months following the transplantation. Urine culture was done in a city lab or at hospital. Current data on bacteriuria and candiduria lead mostly to hospital data that are incomplete..

Bacteria and Intestinal Translocation in Surgery (Bandit)

Surgical Site Infection

Patients undergoing elective abdominal surgery will be included prospectively. Informed consent will be obtained. Preoperatively baseline health data is collected and a skin swab and rectal swab for baseline skin and gut microbiota is taken. During the surgery additional clinical data and additional samples will be obtained. Additional samples include: rectal swab, biopsies of the resected specimen (lymph node, peritoneum, intestinal content, mucosa), venous blood sample (7.5ml) at the end of the operation, liver biopsy and skin biopsy. Postoperative health data is recorded. If a surgical site infection occurs a swab is taken too. With 16 sRNA (small ribonucleic acid) based sequencing the investigators will quantify the abundance of the different bacterial species in all samples. Primary outcome will be to assess a difference of 16sRNA signal in the liver and lymph node biopsies between patients with and patients without surgical site infection. Secondary outcomes include variables predicting the occurence of surgical site infections and a model describing the way bacteria may take to cause wound infection.
