User-friendly HIV Testing and Counseling Services

Multicenter cohort study of individuals reporting behavioral risks of HIV acquisition, recruited among those presenting for testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Overarching goal: to study factors associated with uptake of HIV prevention and (re)testing services in medium-sized cities in Thailand. Primary objective: To estimate the incidence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (syphilis, chronic hepatitis B and C) among individuals presenting for retesting. Secondary objectives: To evaluate the uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis To assess retention in the study To evaluate client HIV knowledge To describe HIV prevalence and characteristics of individuals newly diagnosed with HIV To describe characteristics of individuals at risk of HIV infection To assess the quality of the testing and referral services.

There is an unmet need to evaluate the impact of sub-clinical/mild COVID19 disease in the outpatient setting on prevalent and incident renal injury, as this data is currently unavailable. To capture the diversity of race/ethnic risk and COVID19 related municipal shelter-in-place guidance, the investigators will enroll COVID19-negative and COVID19-positive samples balanced by race/ethnicity from 3 different states, California, Michigan, and Illinois. Study endpoints will be assayed from urine samples mailed to the study team at 2, 6, and 12 months after their date of PCR test, with no requirement for these individuals to leave their homes to participate.

Sars-Cov2 Antibodies in Children and Adolescents Living With HIV

Scientific knowledge about the COVID-19 pandemic and the virus that is causing it (SARS-CoV-2) is developing rapidly, and the investigators have a clearer idea of the population groups who are at higher risk of becoming infected, having serious illness, and dying. However, less is known about COVID-19 in children, adolescents and young adults living with HIV. It is not yet known whether, or how, HIV affects people's risk of being infected with the virus or becoming ill. This study aims to find out whether children and adolescents living with HIV have had the COVID-19 virus, even if they did not have symptoms and did not realise it at the time. When a person is infected with a virus, their immune system fights the infection. As a result, they produce proteins called antibodies, and it may take a few weeks for enough antibodies to be made to be detected by a blood test. These antibodies may help protect the person from getting the same infection again. This study wants to find out how many children and adolescents living with HIV across Europe and South Africa have antibodies to the COVID-19 virus. It wants to see if the proportion with antibodies is different in younger children compared to older adolescents and young adults, and whether it varies between different countries. Children and adolescents with HIV regularly attend hospital outpatient appointments, and during these appointments blood samples may be taken to monitor their health. This study will invite these patients to be tested for antibodies to the COVID-19 virus during their routine visit. The participants will be asked a few short questions about COVID-19 diagnoses in their household and other risk factors for exposure to the virus, and it will collect information on their HIV, medications and any other illnesses they may have. At their next routine clinic visit, approximately 6 months later, it will test them again for antibodies. Testing twice will let see how the percentage of children, adolescents and young adults with antibodies to the COVID-19 virus has changed over time. In South Africa, HIV-uninfected adolescents from a similar socioeconomic background to those living with HIV and recruited to the study will be invited to join this study, which will allow us to compare the prevalence of antibodies across the two groups. The information from this study will help scientists and healthcare workers care for children, adolescents and young adults living with HIV during the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic in the best possible way. Participants may be given their test results, together with information about what the result means, depending on the usual practice within their clinic.

This is a prospective study on the microbiota associated with oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Patients with newly diagnosed SCC of oesophagus would be recruited for taking samples of oral and oesophageal rinse, tissue biopsies for investigation of the microbiota of oesophageal cancer. Control patients would be identified from patients scheduled for routine endoscopy.

Patient are being asked to provide respiratory and blood samples for a clinical research study because the patients have a virus called the novel coronavirus, or SARS-CoV-2, that causes the disease known as Covid-19. Investigators do not know a lot about this virus, including all the ways it travels from person to person. Hantavirus disease are zoonotic infections and remain a clinical challenge with globally increasing incidence and multiple serious outbreak situations in Europe within the last years. Hantavirus disease encompasses two clinical syndromes, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) caused by Old World and New World hantaviruses, respectively. Depending on the causative Old World hantavirus species, clinical course of HFRS can vary from mild to moderate to severe. At present, there is no specific therapy available for hantavirus disease. As the clinical course of hantavirus disease is dependent on the causing viral pathogen and as there worrisome hints that clinical course HFRS and HCPS overlap, further studies with regard to the disease course are mandatory. Furthermore, the examination of attributable mortality and costs of hantavirus disease will need to be studied on a multinational basis and therefore HantaReg will particularly use a matched case control design.
