Xylitol Based Nasal Spray for COVID-19 Treatment

Respiratory Viral Infection

Xlear have developed and patented a xylitol containing nasal spray for the treatment of upper-respiratory tract infections. The nasal spray is comprised of xylitol and GSE (Grapefruit Seed extract) which provides antibacterial properties as well as preventing viral adhesion in the nasal passage. Studies into Xlear's antiviral effects on SARS-CoV-2 are currently ongoing but hypothetically, a Xylitol Based Nasal spray may prove to be a useful and inexpensive treatment for COVID-19 infection.

The aim of the study is to find out if patients with blood cancers receiving immunoglobulin (Ig) for the purpose of preventing infections can safety stop immunoglobulin after six months of therapy, and take oral antibiotics instead to prevent serious infections. Patients may be eligible to join this study if they are aged 18 years or above, have an acquired hypogammaglobulinaemia secondary to a haematological malignancy, and have been receiving intravenous or subcutaneous Ig for longer than 6 consecutive months. Participants will be randomised (allocated by chance) to one of three treatment groups, as follows: Stop immunoglobulin (IVIg or SCIg) and be given oral antibiotics to take every day (ARM A) Stop immunoglobulin (IVIg or SCIg) and be given oral antibiotics to keep at home to use as soon as symptoms of an infection develop (ARM B) Continue receiving immunoglobulin (IVIg or SCIg) - this is the usual care group (ARM C) The duration of each treatment is for 12 months from study entry. Participants will be asked to attend a screening/baseline visit so that their treating clinician can assess their eligibility for the trial and collect baseline data. If eligible for the trial, participants will then be randomly allocated to one of the three treatment groups. Once randomised, active participation in the study will last for 13 months. During this period, participants will be asked to return to the hospital for a study visit every 3 months, with monthly telephone visits to check-in on your progress between each in-person visit. Participants will also be asked to complete a study diary, recording treatment compliance and signs/symptoms of infection experienced throughout the study period. Types of assessments and data collected will include: Medical history, demographics, physical examination, blood tests, stool sample, quality of life questionnaires, information about your general health, hospitalisations, medications and procedures. In order to assess and compare the cost-effectiveness of the treatment groups, the study team will also request authorisation from participants to access their Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), and Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) data.

The aim of this study is to: • Evaluation of efficacy and safety of adding black seed oil with vonoprazan triple therapy ( vonoprazan ,clarithromycin and amoxicillin ) in eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection and this will be done through evaluation of: A. Efficacy by: determination of successful eradication,which will be considered to be achieved on the basis of a negative stool antigen test four weeks after the end of treatment using Stool Ag test The effect of N. Sativa on: I. Oxidative stress by measuring MDA II. Inflammation by measuring IL1B as inflammatory markers B. Safety will be done through: Monitoring of expected treatment related adverse effects (black seed oil and vonoprazan triple therapy ) will be done through the whole study period. C. This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of a single dose of M5717 plus pyronaridine tetraphosphate in clearing current Plasmodium falciparum infection and protecting against recurrent infections in asymptomatic adults and adolescents. The study will also assess the duration of protection provided by different doses of M5717 plus pyronaridine and the additional contribution of M5717 to the duration of protection using external study data.

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the effectiveness of point-of-care lung ultrasound versus chest X-ray for the management of childhood lower respiratory infections in a low-resource setting. The main question it aims to answer is: Is point-of-care lung ultrasound as effective as chest X-ray for the management of childhood LRIs in a low-resource setting? Participants will be assigned to either a point-of-care lung ultrasound group (intervention) or a chest X-ray group (control), to compare the effect on overall case management and various clinical outcomes (time to symptom resolution, rate of antibiotic use, length of stay, treatment costs).

Treatment for bone and joint infection (BJI) is not standardized, which allows a wide range of antibiotic therapy to potentially be given, most often in high doses over long periods of time. Patients are regularly confronted with the adverse effects of these antibiotics, which can lead to loss of adherence and treatment failure. The frequency, severity and impact on quality of life of the adverse effects of long-term antibiotics will be studied in a cohort followed for one year.
