Changing of Dressing for Periprosthetic Joint Infection in Total Knee Arthroplasty

InfectionSurgical Site Infection2 more

The primary aim of the study is to compare two methods for a relationship with total knee infection: regular changing of dressings and not changing dressings.

Hydroxychloroquine Chemoprophylaxis for COVID-19 Infection in High-risk Healthcare Workers.

SARS-CoV-2Healthcare Workers

Healthcare personnel are at an increased risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2 infection while handling such patients. Currently, there is no treatment available for SARS-CoV-2 and stringent preventive measures are advised to avoid or minimize risk of exposure to healthcare workers. There are in vitro studies available which show inhibition of corona virus by hydroxychloroquine, a widely-used agent against malaria and certain autoimmune conditions and of low-cost and limited toxicity. However, evidence regarding its effects in patients is limited. We plan to conduct a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the safety and potential prophylactic efficacy of hydroxychloroquine in preventing secondary SARS-CoV-2 infection among healthcare workers at high-risk of exposure while managing such patients.

Kagocel® for the Prevention of ARVI and Influenza in Adults Health Care Workers

Acute Upper Respiratory Tract InfectionInfluenza1 more

this study evaluates the use of Kagocel for the prevention of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) and influenza during the epidemic rise in morbidity in Russia in the 2017-2018 season (epidemiology: number of cases during the period of taking Kagocel and follow-up, severity of the disease, bacterial exacerbations, number of repeated episodes (reinfection); patients demography; safety) in health care workers who are at risk.

Influence of Military Preventive Policy for reCruit Training on COVID-19 Seroconversion

SARS-CoV InfectionVitamin D Deficiency2 more

This study is intended to address the association between vitamin D status and seroconversion to SARS-CoV-2 in healthy young adults. The primary aim of the study is to determine the rates of 'silent' seroconversion rates, consistent with asymptomatic transmission of SARS-CoV-2, in a young healthy adult population with a wide spread of vitamin D concentrations. The secondary aims of this study are to explore: Any effect of vitamin D status on symptomatic illness. The background 'point' prevalence and subsequent rate of increase in seropositivity for SARS-CoV-2 in healthy young adults. The individual reductions in seropositivity to SARS-CoV-2 over time, and changes in seropositivity in a defined young adult population over time. Where salivary Immunoglobulin A (IgA) may be used to provide an alternative/ complementary serological method The effect (if any) of vitamin D supplementation on seroconversion rates stratified by: i) level of baseline vitamin D 'deficiency/ insufficiency/ sufficiency' status; ii) extent of BMI-defined normal/overweight/obesity cut-offs and iii) gender.

RAPid SOlution for Diagnosis of Respiratory Infection in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Severe Infections Pneumonia With Invasive Ventilation in PICU

In patients with infectious pneumonitis, the FILMARRAY® Pneumonia Plus Panel technique (multiplex PCR) on a respiratory sample makes it possible to identify the responsible pathogen and its resistance to antibiotics in less than an hour and therefore to quickly adapt the anti- infectious. FILMARRAY® Pneumonia Plus has been validated on two types of specimens from adult intubated patients, tracheal aspirations and bronchoalveolar lavage. It has not been validated on protected distal samples which are nevertheless used in current practice. This project will study the diagnostic validity of this technique performed on this type of sample. If the validity is demonstrated, this will allow this technique to be used on the protected distal sample which is a reliable sample and used in the context of respiratory infections, in particular acquired under ventilation in children (bronchoalveolar lavage is less easy and little used in practice in children).

Mucosal Immunity Against SARS-CoV-2 Infection in COVID-19 Patients

SARS-CoV-2 Infection

In this study nasal fluid (mucosal lining fluid), nose and throat swabs and blood was collected from patients with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection who remained in home isolation, as well as from their household contacts who remained in home quarantine. On the collected nose and throat swabs a coronavirus PCR was performed. Antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were measured in the mucosal lining fluid and blood samples.

SARS-CoV-2 InfectionCOVID-19

The investigators hypothesize that detection of SARS-CoV2 on saliva samples will increase the performance of the screening program compared to the reference strategy (RT-PCR on a nasopharyngeal swab).

Antibiotic Use in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Practicing Integrative Medicine

Neonatal Infection

The goal of this study is to describe the antibiotic use in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Germany that is practising integrative medicine. The investigators will review hospital records to find out how often and how long antibiotics were given to newborns; compare antibiotic use to other NICU in the same area; describe how sick infected newborns were (comparing those treated with or without antibiotics); and describe which anthroposophic medicines were used, how often and if there were safety problems.
