The focus of this study will be to conduct a prospective, randomized controlled trial (RCT) at Cape Regional Medical Center (CRMC), Oroville Hospital (OH), and UCSF Medical Center (UCSF) in which a Gram type infection-specific algorithm will be applied to EHR data for the detection of severe sepsis. For patients determined to have a high risk of severe sepsis, the algorithm will generate automated voice, telephone notification to nursing staff at CRMC, OH, and UCSF. The algorithm's performance will be measured by analysis of the primary endpoint, time to antibiotic administration. The secondary endpoint will be reduction in the administration of unnecessary antibiotics, which includes reductions in secondary antibiotics and reductions in total time on antibiotics.

The Apple Respiratory Study, a collaboration between researchers at Apple Inc. (the "Study Sponsor" or "Sponsor") and the Seattle Flu Study team at the University of Washington (UW) (the "UW Study Team"), is a prospective, longitudinal cohort, low risk Study to collect certain data from Apple Watch and iPhone to determine whether such data can detect physiologic and non-physiologic changes in individuals associated with respiratory illnesses due to influenza, SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory pathogens (the "Study").

This is a longitudinal, prospective observational study focusing on health-related outcomes relative to potential changes in the respiratory microbiome seen with weekly SARS-CoV-2 testing in nursing home residents.

Julius Schachter, PhD, (Department of Laboratory Medicine, University of California, San Francisco) and Susan S. Philip, MD MPH (Department of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco) are conducting a study to evaluate the Abbott RealTime CT/NG polymerase chain reaction [PCR] assay (which is a nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT]) for detecting two sexually transmitted bacteria, Chlamydia trachomatis [CT] and Neisseria gonorrhoeae [NG], using urine samples and swabs from the throat and rectum of men who have sex with men [MSM]. Using this test on these swabs is experimental because it has not been approved by the Food & Drug Administration.

The purpose of the study is to determine if the overall central venous catheter related infection rate can be reduced by the application of Polysporin Triple Therapy ointment to the insertion site.

There are biological reasons to suspect that hormones may affect the risk of a woman becoming infected with a sexually transmitted disease. The evidence on this issue to date is mixed and previous studies have methodologic flaws making it difficult to draw conclusions about the results. This study compares the risk of developing either Chlamydial or Gonorrheal infection among three groups of women: those using combined oral contraceptives (birth control pills); those using the injectable hormone (brand name Depo Provera); and those women using non-hormonal contraceptive methods.

This study is designed to assess the causes and impact of acute respiratory illness (common colds, flu, bronchitis, pneumonia) in adults age 65 and older. One of the ways to determine the virus causing a particular illness is to get a blood specimen when a person is sick and again later and look for the body's specific responses that identify the virus. Approximately 3000 subjects will be evaluated and their medical records assessed for details of recent illness and general health to help in understanding the subjects' current illness.

This is a virtual study which will invite females over the age of 18 who have had 2 or more UTIs in the past 6 months to participate. The investigators are looking at the impact of a daily dietary supplement with the recurrence of UTIs. Participants will be blinded and randomized randomized into the Control Group or Groups 1 or 2. Control Group will receive a Placebo Drink-Mix and Placebo Capsules. Group 1 will receive the Uqora Drink-Mix and Placebo Capsules. Group 2 will receive the Uqora Drink-Mix and Uqora Capsules. Each group will receive 180 day supply of the products.

The purpose of this protocol is to determine the difference in clearance of Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) when using the Australian management protocol versus the current Centers of Disease Control (CDC) treatment guidelines for US standard of care (SOC), to determine the proportion of men from the Deep South, with NGU attributable to MG, and to determine the proportion of MG cases that harbor the macrolide-resistance associated with mutation.
