Infections with enterobacteria producing carbapenemases at the University Hospitals of Strasbourg - descriptive epidemiology and risk factors for infection in the event of colonization There is a worrying situation of an increase in the number of patients colonized with carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) at HUS. 7 to 15% of patients colonized with EPC would develop an infection with EPC. The cohorts published mainly concern patients hospitalized in intensive care. The associated mortality reported in the literature is high (> 25%) and greater than that associated with infection with the same bacterium sensitive to carbapenems.

Urinary tract infections (UTI) affect the urine pH and may lead to salt precipitation such as struvite. Bacteria with urease activity are known to alkalinise urine, but not much is known on how pH is changing over time during UTI. This study aims at following urine pH progression at the time of diagnosis of UTI and during the treatment phase. Description of the change in urine pH over time will help understanding the risk of struvite formation and potential timing of intervention.

The Paris Fire Brigade staff have been particularly exposed to COVID-19 due to rescue and care activities for victims at risk in Paris area (where the virus was actively circulating). In addition, when the pandemic began in France, they had to take care of patients before procedures to protect caregivers were implemented. The contamination of young military personnel, whose physical capacity was put into strain at work, raises the question of the consequences of COVID-19 on their physical fitness. At the time, the medium- and long-term evolution of this disease and its possible repercussions on physical fitness are unknown. Moreover, like any soldiers who have been confined, they may present at least a cardio-respiratory deconditioning (sometimes independent of the disease making it difficult to distinguish between a sequelae of the infection or rehabilitation). Based on previous coronavirus epidemics (Sars-Cov 1 and Mers-Cov), it appears that long-term sequelae are possible even in mild forms and can result in an alteration of exertion ability. In the current context and in the absence of national or international recommendations on the return to physical activity, the French Armed Forces Health Service has proposed a simple management plan aiming at: i) allowing mass screening for possible exercise intolerance and targeting at-risk personnel, ii) allowing individualized re-training and iii) guaranteeing that military personnel can carry out their mission without jeopardizing their health.

This project will provide novel data using a large cohort of more than 3000 transplanted patients. Risk and protective factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 disease severity will be identified. The proportion of patients who develop antibodies after infection will be revealed. In this way the presence of these antibodies can be evaluated as a test for prior infection. Our study additionally will demonstrate how long these antibodies remain present and whether they are protective against a new infection.

Children's Antibiotic Resistant Infections in Low Income Countries

Bacterial Infections

The main challenge of the ChARLI program is to assess the clinical burden of severe neonatal and childhood bacterial infections in low-income countries,in particular those caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria. This program will address both healthcare associated, as well as community acquired infections. Beside its main challenge, the ChARLI program will also allow the assessment of the economic burden of these infections, the improvement of their medical care and then ultimately help to set public health interventions and guide public health measures necessary to combat bacterial infections and bacterial resistance in children. It will also lead to set up more basic research investigation to better understand how pathogenic and epidemic may be the resistant clones in these countries and to experiment innovative strategies devoted to prevent these infections. In order to achieve these objectives, an international paediatric cohort will be created, and monitored a platform. This will be done first within the Institut Pasteur International Network (IPIN) and possibly extended in some others low income countries where the IPIN has no center. This constituted initiative will represent the first international pediatric program of its size to be located in low-income countries and specifically focusing severe bacterial infections and bacterial resistance to antibiotics

For the development of a Point of Care IVD test kit for acute phase disease detection against a variety of bacterial and viral infections. Phase one includes 100 clinical diagnosed positive and 200 clinically "normal" serum and whole blood matched specimens for specificity and sensitivity determination for each marker. The positive samples must be IgM positive using any FDA cleared ELISA test kit. The negatives samples must be negative for IgM.
