Observation of Atelectasis Using Lung Ultrasonography in Children Undergoing General Anesthesia:...

Surgery

Pediatric patients between 6months and 6years old will be included. They are scheduled for elective general or urologic surgery at a single tertiary medical center. Before the operation, the researcher interviews the parents of the pediatric patients to check whether they have the upper respiratory tract infection and asks them to fill out a questionnaire about the severity of their symptoms. The researcher will get the symptom score of the upper respiratory tract infection in the questionnaire. The degree of anesthesia induced atelectasis is measured using lung ultrasound. Pulmonary ultrasound is performed after endotracheal intubation and at the end of the operation dividing the patient's thorax into 12 regions. The investigator grades the degree of atelectasis at each region form 0 to 3 points. After the end of the operation, check whether the respiratory adverse effects occurred during emergence and recovery at the post anesthesia care unit.

The RAPID Trial: Assessing Point-of-care Influenza and Other Respiratory Virus Diagnostics

Respiratory PathogensUpper Respiratory Tract Illness2 more

The RAPID trial is a randomized controlled trial that looks at the clinical impact of a rapid respiratory test in a pediatric emergency department. Participants will be randomized to the intervention group - results available to medical providers, or the control group- results not available to medical providers.

Trial of Respiratory Infections in Children for Enhanced Diagnostics

Community-acquired Pneumonia

The overall aim of the TREND study is to improve the differential diagnosis of bacterial and viral etiology in children below 5 years of age with clinical community acquired pneumonia. Specific objectives: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of MxA for viral CAP (sub-study I) To study etiologies in children with CAP (sub-study II) To evaluate sensitivity and specificity for MariPOC® Respi test versus PCR for detection of respiratory viruses (sub-study III) To assess sensitivity and specificity for a novel RPA-based point-of-care test versus PCR for detection of respiratory viruses (sub-study IV) To assess long-term complications in children with CAP (sub-study V The study takes place at Sachs' Children and Youth hospital in Stockholm.

Trial of Post-Dated Delayed Antibiotic Prescriptions

Acute Upper Respiratory Tract Infections

Delayed prescriptions have been shown to lower antibiotic use for upper respiratory tract infections (which are mostly viral). This trial will test the hypothesis that if the clinician post-dates the delayed prescription by 2 days, rather than dating it on the day the patient is seen, there will be a further drop in the rate of antibiotic use.

Kagocel® for the Prevention of ARVI and Influenza in Young People

Acute Upper Respiratory Tract InfectionInfluenza1 more

This study evaluates the use of Kagocel for the prevention of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) and influenza during the epidemic rise in the incidence of diseases in Russia in 2018 (epidemiology: the number of cases during the period of Kagocel administration and follow-up, bacterial exacerbations, the number of repeated episodes (reinfection), demographics of patients, safety, adherence to treatment) in students at risk due to stress, lack of sleep and fatigue.

imPulse™ Una Infrasound-to-ultrasound E-stethoscope

Covid19COVID-19 Pneumonia5 more

This study generates robust, uniform clinical data across emerging COVID-19 strains to train ML/AI algorithms of the Sponsor's imPulse™ Una infrasound-to-ultrasound e-stethoscope for digital diagnostic feature synthesis of asymptomatic and symptomatic COVID-19 digital biosignatures for rapid and accurate adult and child mass screening.

Treatment of Influenza and ARVI in Children by Kagocel ®

InfluenzaAcute Upper Respiratory Infection

This study examined the etiology of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) during the 2015-2016 season, evaluated the statistics of the incidence of influenza and ARVI in this period (epidemiology: severity of the disease and bacterial exacerbations; demographics of patients; duration and timing of treatment; safety; quality of treatment), and evaluated the effectiveness of complex therapy with an emphasis on the using of interferon inducers in hospitalized children aged 3 to 11 years.

Far-UVC Light Devices in Long-term Care Facilities to Reduce Infections

COVID-19 Respiratory InfectionRespiratory Virus Infection1 more

Elderly people who have multiple health problems are at higher risk of illness from viral respiratory infections, such as influenza (the flu) and COVID-19. This is especially true for residents in long-term care because the usual methods of infection control (handwashing, mask-wearing, and distancing) are difficult to enforce due to the memory problems of many residents and the frequently shared common spaces. It can also be difficult to prevent the spread of viral infections within long-term care because many residents are unable to tell their caregivers when they are feeling ill. Also, some elderly people do not show typical symptoms of infection (like fever), instead they may suddenly become confused or weak. This study will test if a safe form of ultraviolet light (far-UVC) can be effective as an extra method of disinfection (in addition to usual manual cleaning) against airborne and surface viruses that can cause respiratory infections.
