Lung Cancer Prevention Screening Programme in Italy

Lung CancerCOPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) With Acute Lower Respiratory Infection1 more

This prospective randomized multicentered clinical study aims at implementing early diagnosis of lung cancer in high-risk heavy smokers in the Italian population. The main goal of the study is to develop a nationwide lung cancer prevention screening with high quality standard, similar to that of other screening programs i.e. breast, colon and cervix ongoing in Italy. The Italian Pulmonary Screening Network (RISP) includes 18 centers, which will promote primary prevention by offering a smoking cessation program (i.e. counselling and anti-smoking cytisine-based therapy) and secondary prevention by screening volunteers with chest Low Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT). The primary objective of the study is to demonstrate the non-inferiority of a risk-based screening strategy (less intensive, every 2 years) compared to the standard annual screening, in terms of stage I/II lung cancer incidence. Furthermore, the study aims to provide evidence whether blood biomarkers screening intervals can improve the efficiency of lung cancer screening by requiring less CT examinations while retaining the ability to diagnose lung cancer at curative state.

COVID-19 Vaccination Detoxification in LDL-C

COVID-19 Stress SyndromeCOVID-19 Vaccine Adverse Reaction4 more

The study hypothesizes that SARS-CoV-2 vaccination poisoning hibernates in human host in Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C). The clinical trial is a follow-up from the intervention trial with NCT number NCT05711810. It tests the use of Atorvastatin Calcium Tablets for detoxification and prevention of blood acidification, and the use of the Chinese herb compounded Anti-Viral Granules for the detoxification in the endocrine system.

The Impact of MeMed BV® on Management of Patients With Suspected Lower Respiratory Tract Infections...

Lower Respiratory Tract Infection

This is a Prospective, multi-center study enrolling adults subjects presented to the ED/Urgent care, with symptoms consistent with lower respiratory infection (LRTI). The reason of this study is to demonstrate the MeMed BV can help clinicians make decisions about using antibiotics in patients with lower respiratory track infections and see how it would impact clinical outcomes, antibiotics use, hospitalizations, ED clinicians find ways to improve health and medical care.

Comparison of Nasopharyngeal Swab v. Nasopharyngeal Saline Wash or Saliva Collection in Testing...

Respiratory Tract Infections

Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) are prevalence community diseases and is the third leading cause of death worldwide. Rapid diagnosis of RTIs is essential as it drives decision points such as treatment, disposition, and containment. According to recent CDC (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) updates, nasopharyngeal swabbing is the preferred method of specimen collection for most RTIs such as SARS-COV-2. This process is invasive and traumatizing for patients as it requires probing (20 seconds) of the posterior nasopharynx with swab applicator. In some cases, this procedure has resulted in pain and injury. Because of the invasive nature of the procedure, patients often refuse testing or withdraw during the collection process resulting in inadequate specimen procurement. The study principle investigators (PI) have developed 2 novel specimen collection devices: 1) nasopharyngeal wash collection device (NP wash device) and 2) saliva collection device (the Oral Capsule). Both devices are designed for ease of use either by a healthcare professional or a patient. The benefits of such collection devices include 1) minimizing the invasive nature of the procedure because a swab applicator is not utilized and 2) minimizing infection risk to healthcare professional because the study devices can be self-administered when applicable. The study will enroll 1000 participants from a pool of patients presenting to the Nebraska Medicine Emergency Department (ED) who received a nasopharyngeal (NP) swab viral PCR test as part of their ED work up. Enrolled patients will be asked to provide four total specimens: 1) a saliva drool specimen, 2) a saliva Oral Capsule specimen, 3) a NP wash specimen, and 4) a finger stick serum specimen. Patients are able to opt out of any specimen collection method. Study specimens 1, 2, 3 will undergo a respiratory pathogen panel (RPP) PCR test and COVID-19 antibody testing. Study specimen 4 will undergo COVID-19 antibody testing and will function as a serum control for antibody detection.

Low-field Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Pediatric Post Covid-19

COVID-19COVID-19 Respiratory Infection1 more

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2) is a new coronavirus and identified causative agent of COVID-19 disease. These viruses predominantly cause mild colds, but can sometimes cause severe pneumonia and pulmonary skeletal changes. By low-field gastric magnetic resonance imaging (NF-MRI), only a small number of structural, scarring changes were seen in a preliminary study of pediatric and adolescent patients with past SARS-CoV-2 infection. In contrast, however, extensive changes in ventilation and blood flow function of the lungs were seen. The long-term consequences and spontaneous progression of these changes on imaging are completely unclear. The aim of this study is to assess the course of these functional lung changes in pediatric and adolescent patients and to validate them with other standard clinical procedures.

Early Identification and Severity Prediction of Acute Respiratory Infectious Disease

Acute Respiratory InfectionSevere Pneumonia2 more

Early identification and Severity prediction of Acute Respiratory infectious disease has become a top priority for clinicians at department of infectious and respiratory diseases after COVID-19 broke out. This is a multicenter, prospective, and randomized study, which aims to figure out the best way of early identification and severity prediction of acute respiratory infectious diseases. Patients with suspected acute respiratory infectious diseases will be enrolled into this study and received two different diagnostic pathways.

The Protective Effect of Mask Wearing Against Respiratory Tract Infections

COVID-19Respiratory Tract Infections

In this trial the researchers plan to recruit 4,000 volunteers to be randomly allocated either wearing face masks in public spaces where they are close to other people, or not wear face masks in such circumstances. For each participant the trial period is 2 weeks, after which they will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire which includes questions about whether they experienced the common cold, influenzas or COVID-19 symptoms during the trail period.
