SGLT-2 and DPP-4 Inhibition, Subclinical Inflammation of the Genito-urinary Tract and Risk of Infections....

Type 2 DiabetesUrinary Tract Infections

In this observational study, 60 subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and eligible, as per good clinical practice, for therapy with SGLT-2 inhibitor, will be randomized to receive a SGLT-2 inhibitor or a fixed dose combination of SGLT-2 inhibitor with a DPP4-inihibitor for 12 weeks. Measures will be performed at baseline and after 12 weeks of treatment, as per good clinical practice.

Predictors of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Hospitalizations in Infants

Syncytial Virus Respiratory InfectionRSV Infection2 more

The VRS (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) study group in Lyon is a working that aims to understand, predict and prevent the burden of disease caused by human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in infants. Incidence of RSV-associated hospitalization in the first year of life was estimated at 14.5 (95% CI 13.4-15.6) per 1000 births in a cohort study in Lyon, France. Related direct medical annual costs were estimated for this cohort at 364,269€, mostly attributed to children born during the RSV season (231,959€) and children born premature (108,673€). This study will combine existing hospital specimens and databases to determine the respective role of socio demographic factors, clinical risk factors, level of cord specific antibody at birth, and virus characteristic in the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Hospitalization outcome in Infants. Regarding the introduction of a new RSV vaccine and RSV-specific neutralizing antibodies, these data are of prime importance to guide future vaccine policies.

Transfer of Strictly Anaerobe Microbes From Mother to Child

Microbial Colonization

This study aims to investigate the changes in the microbiota at different body sites in late pregnancy, in comparison with non-pregnant women, with particular emphasis on archaea, and to identify possible maternal-to-child transfer routes for acquisition of strictly anaerobic microorganisms by analyzing the gut microbiota of new born infants (delivered vaginally or by C-section).

Analysis of the Instestinal Microbiome of Patients With Transthyretin Amyloidosis

AmyloidosisHereditary2 more

Amyloidosis is a serious systemic disease. Cardiac involvement has a great impact on prognosis and can occur in its three main forms: acquired monoclonal light chain, hereditary transthyretinal and senile form. The physiopathogenesis basically results from the deposition of an abnormal protein (amyloid) with toxic properties to the myocyte. The scope of this study will be a hereditary transthyretinal amyloidosis (hATTR). It is known that amyloidotic cardiomyopathy due to transthyretin deposit is an underdiagnosed cause of heart failure in adults, being an important differential diagnosis of diseases that manifest with increased myocardial thickness, such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or myocardial hypertrophy that accompanies the different degrees of aortic valve stenosis. The human gut microbiota is immensely diverse. It is estimated at around 100 trillion microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi and viruses. The microbiota of each individual is unique and determined by genetic factors such as age, type of delivery, use of antibiotics and diet. Recent data point to the hypothesis that the resilience of the intestinal microbiota plays a role in the process of disease development and health restoration.

Febrile Illness Acute

Study goal - to describe pediatric patients with febrile disease that administered to the emergency department (ED) of hillel-yaffe hospital, according to arrival diagnosis, ED diagnosis, given therapy, and therapy concordance with the guidelines and final diagnosis. This research will describe cases that arrived to the hospital with acute febrile disease (up to seven days of fever), the antibiotic treatment given in the community according to the anamnesis and the community physician letter, therapy concordance with the guidelines, the ED diagnosis and changes in therapy, and final diagnosis according to extended microbiological examinations and panel of infectious disease specialists.

The Rate of C-reactive Protein (CRP) Increase as a Marker for Bacterial Infections in Children

Bacterial InfectionsViral Infection

Fever is one of the most common problems in pediatrics. Differentiating between bacterial infections, that require antibiotic therapy, and viral infections that resolve on their own is an important challenge for physicians. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a protein that increases in response to inflammation and its level is generally higher in bacterial infections compared to viral infections. it can be measured by a simple blood test, however its utility as a sole marker for bacterial infection is limited. The hypothesis of the study is that measuring CRP velocity, e.g the value of CRP divided by the hours since the fever started will improve the utility of CRP for the diagnosis of bacterial infections in children.
