Quality of Life in Endometriosis - a Case Control Study
EndometriosisQuality of Life5 moreEndometriosis, one of the most common diseases of women during their reproductive period., may present a chronic disabling disease with major impact on women's life. Therapeutic options are limited and recurrence of disease symptoms is frequent. The current study investigates the quality of life and several risk factors for the development of endometriosis as well as satisfaction with medical support in a minimum of 600 women with different stages of endometriosis and the same number of control women matched for age (± 3 years) and nationality. To evaluate specific features of endometriosis-associated pain a second group of 100 women with chronic abdominal/pelvic pain not related to endometriosis is investigated. Recruitment takes place in different university clinics, and districts hospitals in Switzerland, Germany. And Austria. Control women i.e. women without any evidence for endometriosis presenting for annual routine gynaecological controls are collected at the same places. A composition of different internationally validated questionnaires as well as specific questions on dealing with endometriosis is used to collect information on the quality of life and potential risk factors for endometriosis. Questions on sexuality and partnership are also distributed to women's partners. All diagnosis of endometriosis and classification of ASRM (American Society for Reproductive Medicine) disease stages are based on woman's medical charts.

Infertility Assisted Reproductive TechnologyThe aim of the study is to determine if collapsing an embryo (or making it fold compactly by taking away its fluid) before the transfer in the uterine cavity improves pregnancy rates in assisted reproductive technology (ART). Women coming to our ART center will be randomized in two groups : the collapsing group and a control group. Pregnancy rates will be compared in the two groups. A biomarker (cell free DNA) will also be determined in each group and correlated to pregnancy occurrence.
Effects of SNP of GnRH Receptor Genes in IVF Patients
InfertilityFemaleGonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue (GnRH-a) "long protocol" is a protocol for pituitary down-regulation in IVF. However, it is common in clinic that some patients are hypersensitive to pituitary down-regulation and have pituitary oversuppression, resulting in prolonged ovarian stimulation and increased consumption of exogenous gonadotropin(Gn). On the other hand, some patients may have insufficient pituitary down-regulation, which can affect the synchronization of ovarian follicles and consequently reduce the number of oocytes retrievable and lower the pregnancy rate. The differences in responses to GnRH-a among patients may be associated with the SNP of their GnRH receptor genes. It has been reported that mutations in GnRH receptor genes could change their binding affinity to the ligands, thus affecting the outcome of pituitary down-regulation. So far 20 non-synonymous mutations on the GnRH receptor genes have been reported, which can affect the function of GnRH receptor and are highly associated with disorders such as endometriosis and sexual precocity. However, the correlation between the SNP of GnRH receptor genes and the outcome of pituitary down-regulation in IVF has not been reported. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of GnRH receptor genes in infertile female patients and the extent of pituitary down-regulation by short-acting GnRH-a long protocol, with the goal to achieve individual down-regulation protocols based on the patients' SNP haplotypes of GnRH receptor genes and to improve the success rate of assisted reproductive technology.

Relationship Between Nitric Oxide (NO) in Follicular Fluid and Sperm Fertilization Ability
Male InfertilitySeveral studies indicate that Nitric Oxide (NO) plays an important role in the physiology of the reproductive system in mammals. It has been shown that NO affects sperm motility, it regulates the tyrosine phosphorylation of different sperm proteins, it enhances the sperm binding ability to the zona pellucida and it modulates the acrosome reaction. The enzyme responsible for NO synthesis, the Nitric Oxide Synthase (NOS), has also been identified in the oocytes, cumulus and corona cells, as well as in the oviduct. For these reasons, the NOS presence at the fertilization site could be a key element to determine the success of this process. Therefore, carrying out in vitro studies to better understand NO's role in the fertilization process, especially in human sperm capacitation, could improve the outcome of the Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ARTs) due to an improvement both in the diagnosis of infertility and in the prognosis of treatment success. This study is carried out in collaboration with the Animal Physiology Department from the Veterinary Faculty (University of Murcia, Spain) and it is funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Programme.
Association of the Mediterranean Diet With Fertility Outcomes
InfertilityInfertility affects one of every six couples and one out of ten couples may seek fertility treatment such as ovulation induction and assisted reproductive technologies. With respect to diet, several dietary factors, i.e. micro-, macro-nutrients and individual food groups, have been associated with the risk of subfertility; however, more information is needed on the role of dietary factors in reproductive functions. However, evidence concerning the association between dietary patterns, such as the Mediterranean diet (MD) pattern, and fertility is scarce. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between preconception dietary patterns, especially the MD pattern, and in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes, as well as adiponectin and follistatin concentrations in the plasma and follicular fluid of women undergoing IVF treatment. Blood and follicular fluid adiponectin and follistatin concentrations will be measured on each day of the ovarian stimulation protocol. Main IVF treatment outcomes are fertilization rate, oocyte and embryo quality, implantation, clinical pregnancy and live birth rates.
