Asthma

Primary Objective: • To assess the effect of dupilumab on lung inflammation and related changes in airway volumes detectable by functional respiratory imaging Secondary Objective: • To evaluate the effect of dupilumab at Week 24 on bronchodynamics, hyperinflation, airway resistance, airway wall thickness, ventilation defects and mucus plugging derived from high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scans, patient-reported outcomes, FeNO and spirometry. • To evaluate safety of dupilumab

Effect of Treatment With EGb 761(r) on Blood Markers of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Patients...

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is the moderate impairment of a mental abilities to perform intellectual activities eg memory, calculation, communication... MCI is a disorder that can occur earlier than dementia such as Alzheimer's disease. It is believed that there are several factors involved such as inflammation and oxidative stress which is the production of reactive oxygen species that damage cells. This clinical study tries to evaluate that a treatment already approved by the AEMPS, EGb 761® (Tebofortan), could reduce the levels of markers of inflammation and oxidation in the blood.

Evaluation of Black Chokeberry Bio Juice on Blood Pressure Levels and Endothelial Damage

Essential HypertensionEndothelial Dysfunction1 more

In Romania, the diseases of the circulatory system account for 59.3% of deaths, representing the main cause of morbidity and mortality. Barriers of current pharmacological treatments materialized in side effects and limited actions on risk factors increase the necessity of finding more effective, multi-target and less toxic therapeutic strategies. Considering the well-known benefits, natural compounds represent a very important source for drug candidates. The latest in vitro and in vivo studies on Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott have highlighted its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, anti-atherosclerotic, hypotensive, antiplatelet, lipid and glucose reduction properties, making it an excellent candidate for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. The aim of this study is to comprehensive evaluate (in vivo) the Aronia melanocarpa bio juice, obtained from Romania on blood pressure levels and endothelial damage.

Walnut Consumption and Gut Microbiota

ObesityInflammation

Obesity is a growing health issue that effects the majority of adults in the United States. Prevalence of other metabolic diseases are increased in obese adults, including systemic inflammation. There is emerging evidence that the gut microbiota have a mediating role in controlling inflammation by producing butyrate when ingested fiber is fermented. Since these microbes are modifiable by diet, the investigators plan to introduce walnuts to the diets of participants with obesity because they are rich in fiber and unsaturated fatty acids. The purpose of this study is to understand the impacts of walnut consumption on the gut microbiota and the effect they have on bile acid profiles and systemic inflammation. The investigators intention is to identify how these walnut-derived molecules influence Faecalibacterium spp., a butyrate producing microbe. Increased levels of butyrate have shown to decrease secondary bile acids and decrease inflammation.

Vegetarian Ketogenic Diet VS Omnivore Ketogenic Diet - Protocol of a Keto-vege Diet for Remission...

Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 in ObeseHypertension3 more

Diabetes is one of the biggest public health challenges of the 21st century because of the costs associated with its management, which are estimated at more than three billion dollars per year in Quebec. This cost has been growing steadily for 20 years now. A person with controlled diabetes mobilizes three times more medical resources than a person without diabetes (Diabetes Quebec, 2009). This amount increases rapidly with the associated complications. Therapeutic carbohydrate restriction (in an omnivorous context) used specifically to control glycemia is being studied more and more, but has never been verified in a vegan context. Some studies show that a vegan diet could be an effective way to help type 2 diabetics (T2DM) to better manage their blood sugar. Thus, it is necessary to question whether these effects can be accentuated in the context of a low or very low carbohydrate diet. Numerous publications have highlighted the role of the gut microbiota in metabolic diseases, including T2DM. Analysis of the microbiome before and after dietary change combined with daily breath testing will tell us more about possible intolerances and the role of the microbiome in T2DM management. Given the novelty of these hypotheses and its absence in the literature, it is relevant to undertake a first pilot project with a smaller number of participants in order to obtain preliminary data that will allow us to define more precisely the research avenues for a subsequent study.

Stress Toolbox for Healthcare Providers in Mexico

DistressEmotional4 more

The goal of this randomized wait-list clinical trial is to test in patient facing Mexican healthcare providers the efficacy of the Integrated Toolbox for Healthcare Providers (ISTH) on psychological functioning, well-being, occupational performance, and peripheral inflammation. The main questions this study aims to answer are: Does assignment to the ISTH predict reduced psychological distress and increased well-being? Does assignment to the ISTH predict improved occupational outcomes and social-emotional competencies? Participants will be randomly assigned to either the ISTH, a 12-week synchronous and app-based well-being training or to a wait-list control condition and complete assessments 8 times over the nine-month study period. Researchers will compare the ISTH and the wait-list control group across time to evaluate ISTH impacts.

Randomized Clinical Trial; Medical vs Bariatric Surgery for Adolescents (13-16 y) With Severe Obesity...

ObesityDiabetes3 more

Severe childhood obesity is associated with both immediate and chronic health problems and a severe impact on psychosocial development. Medical and behavioural interventions rarely result in the significant, durable weight loss necessary to improve health outcomes. This is a randomised clinical trial where 50 adolescents, 13-16 years of age, will be randomised to either early bariatric surgery (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) or intense conservative treatment and possibly surgery after two years of non-surgical treatment or as they have become 18 years.

To Compare Different Soft Tissue Grafts at the Time of Lateral Ridge Augmentation Procedure.

Bone Graft; ComplicationsInfection or Inflammation2 more

This study will compare two commonly used soft tissue grafting techniques (connective tissue graft, CTG vs Acellular Dermal Matrix, ADM) to augment the soft tissue at the time of lateral ridge augmentation procedure. Following ridge augmentation procedure, most of the times there is a need for soft tissue augmentation to change the quality of the tissue around future implant's site. To our knowledge, the influence of soft tissue augmentation at the time of ridge augmentation procedure has not been tested defects.
