Mesalamine and Reproductive Health Study

Colitis UlcerativeCrohn Disease

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of high exposure to dibutyl phthalate (DBP) from the use of Asacol with clinical and intermediate markers of male fertility, including semen quality, sperm DNA damage, transcript profiles of sperm mRNA and sncRNAs, and reproductive hormones. Hypothesis 1: High exposure to DBP from the use of Asacol is associated with decreased sperm concentration and motility, and increased sperm DNA damage. Hypothesis 2: High exposure to DBP from the use of Asacol is associated with decreased serum testosterone, altered LH:testosterone ratio, and decreased inhibin-B. Hypothesis 3: High exposure to DBP from the use of Asacol is associated with altered transcript profiles of sperm mRNAs and sncRNAs.

OPERA Database - Crohn's Protocol

Inflammatory Bowel DiseaseCrohn's Disease

The investigators believe that patients with Crohn's disease are able to report details of their own medical history accurately and record changes in clinical status effectively over time. Using an internet-based database the investigators will ask patients to report their own disease history, and the investigators will compare their reports to the medical record.

Deep Endoscopic Remission Assessed by a Surrogate Biomarker in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel...

Inflammatory Bowel DiseaseCrohn Disease1 more

We hypothesize that the number of needed endoscopic procedure performed at IBD patients (adult and children), can be reduced by using an individualized algorithm of symptoms, blood and faecal biomarkers. The aim of the study is to reduce the numbers of endoscopies, as the procedure is uncomfortable for the patient, time consuming and expensive. Through indirect tests - blood test, fecal inflammation marker and clinical symptoms - compared to endoscopic findings, we want to construct an algorithm by which the intestinal healing can be foreseen without performing an endoscopy. Furthermore, we will correlate FC, blood tests, clinical symptom score and endoscopic score, with the histo-pathological inflammation score from intestinal biopsies and the immunological score depicted by TNF- alpha and IL17A levels in intestinal tissue, in order to assess the gold standard - endoscopic remission.

Personality Traits and Its Impact on Quality of Life and Clinical Outcome Evaluation in Crohn's...

Crohn's Disease

Quality of life is recommended as one of essential parameters to evaluate treatment effect and clinical outcome in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). Recent studies reported that several disease-unrelated variables may affect quality of life in CD patients. This study is dedicated to investigate the influence of various personality traits on quality of life, and whether or not they should be taken into account when evaluating clinical outcomes in patients with CD.

Reveal the Level of Anxiety in Patients With Crohn's Disease Receiving Adalimumab

Severe Crohn's DiseaseAnxiety

It has been shown that emotional health issues, such as state anxiety, are more prevalent in patients suffering from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared to physically healthy subjects. Such findings have to be taken into consideration when making an educated guess that psychological factors such as depression and anxiety in particular interact with the course of Crohns disease. Therefore the treatment of the underlying disease may have a significant influence on the level of psychological disorders. Several studies have shown that treatment with tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) antibodies ameliorates the emotional/psychological status of patients, however the impact of adalimumab therapy on anxiety correlated with the status of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remains unclear. The primary objective of this study was to describe and evaluate changes in levels of anxiety assessed by validated patient questionnaires after 6 months of treatment with adalimumab.

OTIS Autoimmune Diseases in Pregnancy Project

Crohn's DiseaseRheumatoid Arthritis

The purpose of the OTIS Autoimmune disease in pregnancy study is to monitor planned and unplanned pregnancies exposed to certain medications, to evaluate the possible teratogenic effect of these medications and to follow live born infants for one year after birth. With respect to fetal outcome, it is important to evaluate the spectrum of outcomes that may be relevant to a medication exposure during pregnancy, and these include both easily recognizable defects that are visible at birth, as well as, more subtle or delayed defects that may not be readily identifiable without special expertise and observation beyond the newborn period.
