Evaluating The Safety And Clinical Efficacy Of Elderberry Extract In Patients With Influenza
InfluenzaHumanThis research is being done to determine if an extract of cooked elderberries will help decrease the duration and severity of influenza symptoms in patients with confirmed influenza. Involvement in this study requires an initial patient screening at the time of their Emergency Department visit in order to confirm eligibility for the study. Once patients have been consented and enrolled as a participant, they will be randomized to take by mouth either Elderberry Extract or a placebo (a similar appearing and tasting liquid without elderberry) for a duration of 5 days. Study information regarding medication adherence, body temperature, symptoms, severity of symptoms, and any possible side effects will be collected from daily phone surveys conducted by the study coordinator. Participation in the study will end after at least 5 days once the patient has not had a temperature above 100°F and has had no influenza symptoms for at least 24 hours, or after 21 days in the study, whichever occurs first.

This study aims to evaluate a treatment for people who are hospitalized with the flu. The study is looking to see if antibodies collected from people who have recovered from the seasonal flu or who have had the seasonal flu shot can be used safely as a study drug to treat hospitalized patients with severe flu infections. Also, this study will help to find the right dose for this study drug for treatment of severe flu in hospitalized patients. Overall, this study will evaluate if the hospitalized patients receiving standard of care along with the study drug get better more quickly than those treated with standard of care and placebo. The study drug that contains antibodies against the flu is called anti-influenza immunoglobulin intravenous (FLU-IGIV).

This study will evaluate the effect of supplementation of vitamin D3 vs. dietary-hygiene measures in SARS-COV-2 , H1N1, A, B Influenza infection rate in patients with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels >20ng/ml. A comparative randomized study that will evaluate the effect of a monthly supplementation with 52000 units of Vitamine D3 during three months vs hygienic-dietary measures in the development of respiratory infections such as COVID-19, H1N1, A, B Influenza during 6 months of follow-up in health workers from a hospital in Northern Mexico with serum vitamin D values +/- 20ng/ml. Also, patients that during screening have 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels <20 ng/ml will receive vitamin D supplementation according to primary care discretion for three months and will be followed for 6 months and infection rate will be analyzed and compared.
