OrthoPure™ XT Pilot Clinical Study

To evaluate the clinical safety and obtain preliminary effectiveness data for OrthoPure™ XT device in a small group of US patients at 12 and 24 months. The clinical experience obtained from this study will be used to develop a pivotal study for follow up in a larger patient population.

Effects of Intraarticular IL1-Ra on Pain and Inflammatory Mediators After Knee Arhroscopy

Knee Injuries

This project investigates the relation between acute pain and local inflammation. Pain reported by the patients for knee arthroscopy are compared with local changes in inflammatory mediators by using microdialysis technique. Patients with moderate-to-severe pain are included in a randomized placebo-controlled trial of anakinra given intra-articularly.

The purpose of this study is to report the feasibility and determine the initial effects of 18 sessions of real-time gait biofeedback delivered over a 6-week period on retention and transfer of normalized gait biomechanics and improvements in indicators of early post-traumatic osteoarthritis development in those with an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) at 6 and 8-week posttests.

Short Term Immobilization of the Lower Limb

The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of one week of knee-joint immobilization on muscle size, strength, neuromuscular function, and brain function. In addition, the effects of two different interventions (i.e., neuromuscular electrical stimulation and action observation/mental imagery) throughout immobilization will be determined. Following the immobilization period, participants that have lost strength will be rehabilitated with twice weekly resistance training sessions, and sex-based differences in rehabilitation timelines will be examined.

Impact of Pilates on Running Mechanics

INTRODUCTION: Core strengthening, balance, and flexibility programs such as Pilates have been advocated to affect running mechanics and prevent lower extremity injuries positively. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of a 12-week mat-based Pilates exercise program on dynamic knee valgus alignment in runners. METHODS: Thirty-four young male and female adults performed a running protocol at baseline. The protocol consisted of the participants running on a treadmill at a constant five miles per hour (mph) for four minutes. Post-examination, participants were randomly assigned to a Pilates or control group (n=16 and n=18, respectively). A certified Pilates instructor gave the Pilates group a 12-week home-based program. To ensure participants in the Pilates group performed exercises correctly, the Pilates instructor conducted the first session, and provided feedback to each participant. Participants in both groups performed the same running testing protocol every four weeks. Knee valgus was measured as the medial displacement of the knee joint center during the running stance phase. Repeated measures Analysis of Variance (RepANOVA) was calculated at baseline and 4-, 8-, and 12-weeks post examinations to compare knee valgus during running.

Preventing Knee Injuries in Adolescent Female Football Players

Knee Injury

Football-related knee injuries are common and especially the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury constitute a serious problem in football regardless of the playing level. The purpose of this study is to conduct a randomized controlled trial evaluating the effect of a training program designed to prevent acute knee injury in female adolescent football players. The investigators' hypotheses are: a preventive training program reduces the incidence of ACL injury, and a high match frequency and match play at senior level increase the risk of ACL injury.
