Cold Plasma Jet kINPen Med Versus Best Practice Wound Dressings

Wounds

Within the treatment of chronic wounds the main objective is to analyze the wound healing properties with cold plasma (cold plasma jet kINPen® Med) compared to wound phase-adapted best practice wound dressings. Especially, close attention is paid to the development of the different phases of the chronic wounds until healing during the study.

Potential Injury Incidents at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Injury;Sports

This is an exploratory observational study. Video footage is used to review all 64 matches in the football tournament. All players actions are registered using the FIFA football language, such as, pass completed, clearance, etc. Potential injury incidents are registered, and for each incident the injury location, contact type, player reaction, velocity, location, game reaction, referee reaction, medical staff on pitch, and outcome (e.g. substitution) are also registered.

Freeze-dried Plasma in the Initial Management of Coagulopathy in Trauma Patients

TraumaCoagulopathy

Knowledge and management of bleeding in severe trauma has changed. A specific coagulopathy is present in 40% of cases. It has a very early onset and this coagulopathy is associated with increased mortality. It must be detected and treated early, as illustrated by the military medical data, from the Iraq war and civilian medicine. However, fresh frozen plasma (FFP) requires a thawing step. The French army has encouraged the development of a freeze-dried plasma of innovative because viral inactivation and universal blood grouping, well tolerated, with a reduced risk of TRALI. This sophisticated therapeutic product can be administered after 6 minutes of reconstitution without the need for cross-matching. Nevertheless, its used is currently reserved for military purpose in overseas operations and needs to be evaluated for civil use. To this end, the investigators need to evaluate the impact on coagulopathy of an immediate availability of plasma.

Dual-task Assessment and Rehabilitation for Individuals With Residual Symptoms After mTBI

Brain Injury Traumatic MildConcussion1 more

This research aims to develop an intervention that combines mTBI-specific motor and cognitive challenges into a progressive and challenging rehabilitation program. We plan to develop and refine a combined motor and cognitive intervention using healthy athletic young adults (n=12) and people with a positive history of non-resolving mTBI (n=12). We will conduct limited feasibility testing by conducting 6 week training sessions with each subject group. We also plan to identify best measures for determining readiness for duty or full function by incorporating and testing 3 dual-task assessment measures using state-of-the-art wearable sensors to quantify movement.

The Impact of Transcutaneous Spinal Cord Stimulation (TSCS) and Gait Training on Walking Function...

Spinal Cord Injuries

Aim 1: Determine the neurophysiologic impact of Transcutaneous Spinal Cord Stimulation (TSCS) within a single session. The investigators hypothesize that subjects will demonstrate increased volitional muscle activity and strength with TSCS. This will be assessed by surface EMG and hand-held dynamometry of the dominant-side quadriceps muscle during maximum volitional contraction (MVC) and measurement of gait speed. Subjects will be tested in both TSCS and sham conditions. Aim 2: Determine the impact of TSCS and gait training on walking function. The investigators hypothesize that concurrent TSCS and gait training will augment walking function in subjects with iSCI, as compared to gait training alone. Subjects will participate in an eight-week program of gait training with TSCS and be assessed with clinically relevant outcome measures, to include the Timed Up and Go, 10-Meter Walk Test, Walking Index for Spinal Cord Injury II, and 6-Minute Walk Test.
