Serial Movement Assessment in Collegiate Athletes Who Perform Injury Prevention Training

Injury LegInjury4 more

Athletic injury can result in decreased athletic performance or removal from sport participation. There may also be psychological and financial impacts of athletic injury. Additionally, there can be long-term consequences, such as increased risk of subsequent injury or arthritis. Therefore, determining ways to prevent athletic injury from occurring is critical. Movement quality during sport is related to injury risk. Athletes who move poorly are generally at increased risk of injury compared to athletes who move well. Movement quality can be improved through exercise-based injury prevention training, thereby decreasing injury risk. This purposed of this study is to evaluate movement quality multiple times over the course of an athletic season in collegiate athletes who perform injury prevention training. The hypothesis is that movement quality will improve over the course of an athletic season.

Is Kinesio Taping Application Effective on Decreasing Injury Risk for Tennis Players

Injury

Research design: The study protocol was approved and required permissions were taken from related tennis club officials, and a written consent was obtained from all the participants' parents about the study. Thirty-three young tennis players aged between 9 and 12 were included in our study. Assessment were done bare (no tape), after 45 min of performance plus kinesio taping application (PP application) and after 45 min of gold text FP kinesio taping application (GT application). We were randomly taped with either PP or GT taping applications using an online random allocation software program (GraphPad Software QuickCalcs, GraphPad Software Inc., La Jolla, CA, USA). Thirty min of rest was given between 2 taping applications after the removal of the first tape. One participant was not able to complete the second taping procedure. PP and GT taping applications were done by using kinesio taping muscle facilitation techniques to Quadriceps and Gastrosoleus muscles. I-shaped tape with a tension of 10-35% was used for muscle facilitation. All patients were assessed by an experienced physiotherapist, and the tapings were done by another experienced physiotherapist in order to provide a single blind structure of the study.

Intermittent Compression Maneuver of Upper Arm to Reduce Axillary Brachial Plexus Block Onset Time...

Forearm InjuriesHand Injuries

This study evaluates the addition of intermittent pneumatic compression maneuver to axillary brachial plexus block in forearm and hand surgery. Half of participants will receive axillary brachial plexus block and intermittent pneumatic compression maneuver, while the other half will receive only axillary brachial plexus block.

Impact of Nonselective Beta-blocker on Acute Kidney Injury in Cirrhotic Patients With Esophageal...

Acute Kidney InjuryCirrhosis1 more

We will include patients with EV and EVB. They will be randomized to EVL vs. NSBB for primary prevention And EVL+long-term NSBB vs. EVL+short-term NSBB for secondary prevention. 150 patients will be included in a 3-year period. Primary end-points are formation/progression of ascites, acute kidney injury and survival. The other outcomes such as bleeding, rebleeding, infection and other risk factors will be also analyzed.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy for Diabetic Foot Wounds

Diabetic FootWound

Diabetic wounds post digital amputation have poor healing in 30-45% of cases, resulting in 75% of patients undergoing a further amputation within the year, despite best wound management. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is a promising safe and non invasive treatment that has been shown to improve healing in chronic ulcers and burns by promoting healing and decreasing risk of infection. The study will recruit patients on a hospital ward who have undergone a toe amputation for a infected non healing diabetic foot ulcer. Participants will be informed about the study, given an patient information sheet and invited to give informed consent. Consenting participants will undergo shockwave therapy three times in the seven days after their operation, in addition to standard wound care. Wound measurements, blood perfusion, tissue integrity, quality of life and pain scores will be recorded at baseline, after the third treatment, 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks after recruitment to the study. The study aims to recruit 25 patients. The results will be compared to a matched retrospective cohort group who received standard wound care.

Serum Level of Calpains Product as a Novel Biomarker of Acute Lung Injury Following Cardiopulmonary...

Lung InjuryAcute

More than 2 million patients worldwide receive heart surgery every year, majority of these surgical patients will undergo cardiopulmonary bypass. However, the incidence of postoperative acute lung injury due to cardiopulmonary bypass is still as high as 20% to 35%. According to clinical experience, the earlier lung damage is detected, the more successful the treatment will be. On the basis of traditional detection, the investigators found a new indicator, serum calpains, which are easy to obtain and have certain specificity. Importantly, they can predict postoperative acute lung injury within 1 hour after cardiac surgery. It is meaningful that this indicator can provide clinicians with early decision-making advice and immediate treatment for patients who may be at risk.

Hyperosmolality and Acute Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery

Acute Kidney InjuryOsmolality Disturbance1 more

The goal of this randomized controlled trial is to test if a hyperosmolar prime solution used for cardiopulmonary bypass increases the risk for acute postoperative kidney injury.

Comparing Pressure Injury Occurrence in Patients Using Two Different Mattresses

Pressure InjurySleep7 more

The purpose of this project is to compare a newly developed automatic reversing dynamic air mattress, with a regular care mattress, which is in daily use at the hospital. Focus will be on pressure relief in relation to occurrence of pressure injury, user satisfaction, and the mattresses impact on sleep and pain. The participants will be randomized to start with the intervention mattress or the control mattress. Outcomes will be measured via validated forms regarding pressure related injuries, quality of life, pain, and mattress comfort. Custom made forms will be used regarding resource use and comfort in the nursing service, especially in relation to position changes in the participants .

Pediatric Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Retrospective, Real-Time and Repository Research

Acute Kidney InjuryRenal Injury1 more

This proposal will incorporate statistical models developed by the investigators to predict risk for acute kidney injury into our electronic medical record system, enabling an alert to notify providers of the risk status. Pediatric inpatients will be randomly assigned to be in the intervention group, for whom the notification will be implemented, or in the control group, who will receive usual care (no notification). The investigators believe the notification will increase appropriate screening for acute kidney injury and reduce the severity of acute kidney injury in the intervention group.
