Definition of Biomechanical Indices Measurable During Sport Movements for the Prevention of Primary...
Sport InjuryAnterior Cruciate Ligament Injury1 moreThe aim of the study is to define a set of quantitative parameters related to articular biomechanics, which will be evaluated during some specific motor tasks. The goal is the prevention of primary and secondary anterior cruciate ligament injury in athletes. Specifically, the validation of a new comparative methodology of biomechanics analysis will be performed, based on inertial sensors and musculoskeletal models. This way, brief but exhaustive description of functional characteristics of athletes could be created and easily used in ambulatory environment.
Ocular Ultrasonography as a Tool for Monitoring the Management of Traumatic Brain Injury
Traumatic Brain InjuryRaised intracranial pressure (ICP) is a common and life threatening condition especially in patients with traumatic brain injury. There are many methods for monitoring the increased (ICP) either invasive or non- invasive ,but the gold standard is invasive method. Optic nerve sheath ultrasonography provides a very promising bedside tool for detection of increased ICP. This study will monitor the dynamic changes of intracranial pressure by optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) in response to mannitol osmotherapy
A Prospective Outcome Study in Patients With Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury
Brain InjuriesTraumatic2 moreTraumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of death, disability and cognitive impairment in young people worldwide. The majority of the traumatic deaths in developed countries results directly from lesions in the central nervous system. Furthermore, due to the persistence of disabling effects of TBI for many years, personal and public costs of supporting survivors have to be taken in consideration. Many patients rescued by ICU treatment may have been severely disabled or vegetative because of trauma. These data suggest that, despite improvement in medical and surgical treatments, other factors related to trauma itself and to patient's condition could have an impact on the final outcome. Aim of the TBI-PRO project is to collect high quality clinical and epidemiological data and to describe the outcome of moderate-to-severe TBI in a local contest (Bergamo area, Italy).
PEEP-induced Changed in RRI as Physiological Background of Ventilator-induced Kidney Injury
Respiratory Distress SyndromeAdult3 moreThe renal Doppler resistive index (RRI) is a noninvasive tool that has been used to assess renal perfusion in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting. Many parameters have been described as influential on the values of renal RI. Mechanical ventilation is associated with significant increases in the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). Ventilator-induced kidney injury (VIKI) is believed to occur due to changes in hemodynamics that impair renal perfusion. The investigators hypothesized that patients who need mechanical ventilation should have a different response in RRI when different levels of Positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) are applied. Investigators wish to describe changing in RRI due to changes in PEEP and to verify whether these changes could partially explain the occurrence of VIKI
Active Powered Prosthesis (APEX) for Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal Cord InjuriesThe Active Powered Prosthesis (APEX) (AbiliTech Medical Inc., Minneapolis, MN) is a proof-of-concept shoulder-elbow-wrist device intended to provide non-invasive active powered robotic assistive movement to upper extremities. The objective of this study is to perform focus groups with users and clinicians to evaluate a proof of concept active powered assistance device.
Neutral Endopeptidase for Early Detection of Acute Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery
Acute Kidney InjuryThe investigators want to investigate if the urinary biomarker neprilysin can identify cardiac surgical patients suffering from postoperative AKI within 24 hours.
CiNPT for Abdominoplasties in Post-bariatric Patients Study
ObesityMorbid25 moreThe overarching goal of this research is to assess whether the post-operative use of closed-incision Negative Pressure Therapy (ciNPT) accelerates healing of surgical wounds, improves surgical outcomes, and reduces the rate of local complications in high-risk, obese, post-bariatric patients undergoing abdominal body-contouring procedures (abdominal panniculectomy or "abdominoplasty") compared to standard wound care. The investigators postulate that ciNPT can cost-effectively improve outcomes and standard of post-surgical care in this specific category of patients. This hypothesis will be tested through a prospective, interventional, case-control, randomized clinical trial.
Early Healing of Oral Soft Tissues: a Clinical and Biomolecular Analysis. Part I
Wound SurgicalWound Heal1 moreThe purpose of the present study is to observe and compare -through a biomolecular analysis- the differences in the gene expression and cellular behavior in the early wound healing process -24 hours after injury- between the following three oral tissues: alveolar mucosa, buccal gingiva and palatal tissue. The main hypothesis is that there is a difference in the gene expression and in the cellular behaviour between the three oral tissues studied and this difference can be observed at 24 hours post-injury.
Hepaticojejunostomy With or Without Permanent Duodenal Access Loop in Treatment of Iatrogenic Bile...
Iatrogenic Bile Duct InjuriesDuodenojejunostomy Access LoopA comparative study between two groups, group I; retrospective group, 21 patients underwent hepaticojejunostomy for treatment of iatrogenic bile duct injuries without access loop, in the period between January 2013 and December 2014, group II; a prospective group, 23 patients underwent hepaticojejunostomy for iatrogenic bile duct injuries with duodenojejunostomy as a permanent access loop, in the period between June 2017 and May 2019. Primary (early and late outcome) and management of complications data were collected and analyzed properly.
Omadacycline Tissue Penetration in Diabetic Patients With Wound Infections and Healthy Volunteers...
DiabetesWound Infection1 moreThis study will determine the tissue penetration of the novel tetracycline antibiotic, omadacycline (Nuzyra, Paratek Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), into the extracellular, interstitial fluid of soft tissue in diabetic patients with lower limb wound infections. Penetration will be compared with a group of healthy volunteer control participants.
