Wound Etiology and Healing Study
WoundsHidradenitis Suppurativa2 moreThe purpose of the WE-HEAL Study is to help researchers use human tissue samples and health records to study the reasons why some patients heal quickly and some have problems healing wounds. All patients seen with an open wound or hidradenitis suppurativa are invited to participate. Information from this research may help to understand how to prevent and treat certain diseases.
Assessment of Head Injury in the Emergency Department Using BrainScope® Ahead® Technology
Brain InjuriesCraniocerebral TraumaThe objectives of the study are to document device performance with respect to the primary and secondary endpoints.
Central Auditory Processing Deficits Associated With Blast Exposure
Blast InjuriesBrain Injuries1 moreThe current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq have resulted in unprecedented rates of exposure to high-intensity blasts and resulting brain injury. This research team has established that recently blast-exposed Soldiers show differences from controls on tests of central auditory function. This project will 1) develop a more accurate estimate of the prevalence of central auditory dysfunction among Veterans exposed to blasts over the past ten years, 2) identify the functional outcomes associated with abnormal performance on tests of central processing, and 3) improve understanding of the ways in which blast-exposure resembles and differs from both the normal aging process and non-blast-related TBI in terms of performance on tests of central auditory processing.
A Study of the Effects of Molecular Diagnostic Directed Wound Gels on Wound Care Outcomes
WoundsA retrospective molecular diagnostic review on wound care outcomes. The time periods include March, April, May of 2010.The retrospective review would analyze the days of healing during the timeframe, upon the introduction of molecular diagnostic testing
Aquacel Compared to Traditional Post Surgical Wound Dressing in Vascular Surgery Patients
Wound HealingPatient ComfortThe study is a prospective randomised, controlled study of 136 patients undergoing vascular surgery. Their closed wounds were covered with either aquacel, a hydrofiber dressing, or a traditional gauze dressing.Number of changes, patient comfort, number of infections, length of hospital stay and wound complications were compared between the two groups.
Phone Intervention for Alcohol (ETOH) Use in Emergency Department Motor Vehicle Crash (ED MVC) Patients...
Alcoholic IntoxicationWounds and InjuriesThe purpose of this study is to determine if a brief counseling intervention, delivered by telephone, is more effective than standard ED care, to reduce future alcohol related injuries and alcohol related negative consequences, among patients treated in the ED for injuries from an MVC and other injury mechanisms.
Visual Prognosis in Non-Penetrating Corneal Blast Injuries
Corneal Foreign Body Following Blast InjuryThe purpose of this study is to assess visual quality of patients with non-penetrating, non-metallic, stable corneal foreign bodies. Visual quality will be assessed by examining visual acuity, wavefront analysis and contrast sensitivity. Drawings, photographs, and confocal microscopy will be used to document clinical examination of the cornea at baseline and on follow-up examinations.
Evaluation of Myocardial Injury After Anthracycline Chemotherapy in Osteosarcoma Patients Using...
CardiotoxicityOsteosarcoma3 moreusing a contrast-enhanced (CE) cardiac magnetic resonance imaging(CMR) which included the measurement of T1 mapping, T2 mapping, T2* mapping and late gadolinium enhancement(LGE) sequences, as well as LVEF and extracellular volume(ECV) to evaluate the respective changes before and after anthracycline chemotherapy.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Registry
Air or Gas EmbolismCarbon Monoxide Poisoning13 moreThe purpose of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Registry (HBOTR) is to provide real world patient outcome and side effect information from electronic health records submitted to a specialty specific hyperbaric registry as part of "Stage 2 of Meaningful Use," including data provided to meet PQRS requirements via the registry's QCDR mission. Goals include understanding the value of HBOT among patients treated for a variety of conditions in relation to the frequency and severity of HBOT side effects. While randomized, controlled trials can establish the efficacy of treatments like HBOT, because they routinely exclude patients with co-morbid conditions common to those patients seen in usual clinical practice, the results of RCTs are usually non-generalizable. Real world data can be used to better understand the effectiveness of HBOT among typical patients, as well as the risks associated with treatment.
