Urological Injuries During Obstetric and Gynecological Operations

Iatrogenic urinary tract injuries are more common during obstetric and gynaecological procedures averaging 2.6 per 1000 surgeries . The objective of the study is to estimate the incidence of iatrogenic urinary tract injuries and risk factors during obstetric and gynaecological operations. Embryologically, the urinary system and genital system have a common origin, so anatomically they are so close that predisposes to iatrogenic trauma to it during obstetric and gynaecological operations. The bladder and distal ureters are the most commonly involved organs. The bladder is a retroperitoneal structure, its trigone rests over the anterior vaginal fornix and the base rests on lower uterine segment and cervix.

• Trauma is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite the advent of specialized trauma centers the outcome of patients who sustain major trauma remains disappointing. Plain radiography and more advanced imaging techniques such as ultrasound, computerised tomography (CT) and angiography, have a major role to play in the early decision making and subsequent management of patients who sustain polytrauma. This article discusses the choice of emergency imaging techniques available in chest trauma for clinicians and radiologists; their evaluation and some of the common pitfalls that may lead to errors of interpretation.

At 34 weeks, the brain weight of preterm infants is only 65% that of term infants, and the cortex volume is 53% that of term infants. Damage at this stage of development will also change the trajectory of specific processes in the development of neurons and glial cells, resulting in neurological dysfunction in survivors.The incidence of cerebral palsy in late preterm infants is three times higher than in term infants, and about 25% lag behind term infants in learning, language and other neurodevelopment. At 34-37 weeks of gestation, oligodendrocytes are still late oligodendrocyte precursors and vascular development of the white matter area is immature, making the brain more prone to white matter injury (WMI).

Bleeding control often poses a great challenge for clinicians due to trauma-induced blood clotting disorder (TIC), a condition that is present in one-third of bleeding trauma patients. As platelets are considered as central mediators in TIC, the understanding of mitochondria-mediated processes in thrombocytes may disclose new therapeutic targets in the management of severely injured patients. The investigators hypothesize that mitochondrial dysfunction occurs in the platelets of trauma patients with TIC. The investigators intend to quantitatively characterize the derangements of mitochondrial functions in TIC; and assess the relation between mitochondrial respiration and clinical markers of platelet function

Blunt Abdominal Trauma in ChildrenIdentifying Intra Abdominal Injuries

The aim of our study is primarily to evaluate the professional practices over the last years in the pediatric emergencies of the Nancy's Hospital for the BATiC. This, in order to identify the traumatic mechanisms and the initial clinical elements which would make it possible to detect the patients at low risk of developing visceral lesions. Then, a management could be proposed which would rationalize the use of additional examinations and would favor the monitoring and the clinical reassessment after the initial management of a minor trauma. The study of the data will then aim to establish a composite score (anamnestic and clinical) of initial evaluation, from which could result a uniform management protocol (clinical, biological and imaging) of the minor BATiC, of the intermediate BATiC and the major BATiC, applicable to pediatric emergencies at the Nancy's Hospital.
