Rheoparin-coated Tubing System for Minimized Extracorporeal Circulation (MECC)

Extracorporeal CirculationInflammation2 more

In this study, the investigators would like to compare a heparin-coated tubing system for minimized extracorporeal circulation (MECC) with the conventional tubing system for MECC, which does not contain heparin coating. The MECC system has been used since 14 years in the investigators' hospital as an extracorporeal system to support circulation and provide oxygen to the tissues during coronary artery bypass grafting. Until today, the investigators performed more than 5000 MECC procedures in their department.

Bipolar Sealer Aquamantys Use in Total Knee Replacement

OsteoarthritisArthritis5 more

This study will compare the clinical outcomes for patients undergoing a total knee replacement using a bipolar sealer, the Aquamantys® System, as compared to standard electrocautery. Total blood loss during the hospital stay and knee mobility and discharge factors will be analyzed.

Effects of Lifestyle-modification Induced Weight Loss on Sexual and Urinary Function, and Quality...

Sexual DysfunctionEndothelial Dysfunction2 more

This study aims to evaluate the extent to which weight loss of 5-10% from baseline, induced by exercise and diet, improves metabolic and inflammatory profile, endothelial function, erectile function, sexual desire, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), and quality of life in obese men.

Carbohydrates and Proteins 3h Before Surgery

SurgeryPostoperative Complications1 more

Prolonged pre-operative fasting increases postoperative hospital stay and current evidence recommends carbohydrate (CHO) drinks 2 hours before surgery. Our hypothesis is that the addition of hydrolized protein to a CHO-based drink not only reduces the inflammatory response but also diminish hospitalization.

Vitamin D, Insulin Resistance and Inflammation in ESRD

End Stage Renal Disease

The broad goal of this study is to understand the mechanisms by which Vitamin D receptor activation leads to changes in insulin signaling in advanced uremia. We hypothesize that 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 deficiency due to advanced chronic kidney disease leads to insulin resistance and that administration of a vitamin D3 analog will restore insulin sensitivity in End Stage Renal Disease patients.

[18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT in Inflammation and Fibrosis in Renal Diseases

18F-FAPI PET/CT ExaminationRenal Puncture Biopsy

The goal of this observational study is to explore the feasibility of using 18F-labeled FAP molecular probe for PET/CT imaging (18F-FAPI PET/CT) to accurately evaluate inflammation and fibrosis in renal diseases. The main questions it aims to answer are: Can 18F-FAPI PET/CT accurately evaluate the inflammation and fibrosis of kidney disease? What is the value of 18F-FAPI PET/CT as a non-invasive assessment of inflammation and fibrosis in kidney disease? Participants will receive [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT and renal aspiration biopsy.

Nitrate Consumption and Gingival Inflammation

Gingivitis

The aim of this investigation is to evaluate the impact of the 14- day consumption of a nitrate-rich diet on the the extent of gingival inflammation in a cohort of periodontal aftercare patients. Recorded parameters were gingival index, plaque control record, salivary nitrate/nitrite level and vascular parameters

Effect of Very-low Calorie Diet and Synbiotic Supplementation in Gut Microbiota (Pronokal Method)...

Weight LossInflammation

The present study aimed to investigate the changes produced in gut microbiota by a very-low-calorie-ketogenic diet followed by a low calorie diet, whether the use of synbiotics is able to modulate gut microbiota diversity and composition and its association with gut permeability and inflammation
