Mediators of Inflammation, Prognostic Markers and Genetic Polymorphisms in Patients With Sepsis...

Sepsis

Aims of the study were to find vascular markers of inflammation and endothelial damage during the course of severe sepsis in septic patients and the effects of treatment with anti-inflammatory medication (such as Drotregocin alfa (activated)). Another aim is to find new markers and gene polymorphisms for prognosis and mortality of patients with severe sepsis. The hypothesis is that higher plasma concentrations of certain markers in septic patients are associated with a higher mortality rate.

Simvastatin Effect on Inflammation and Endothelial Function After Myocardial Infarction

Myocardial InfarctionInflammation1 more

During myocardial infarction, inflammatory response may negatively influence ventricle wall remodeling as well as endothelium-dependent vasomotor function in the coronary and systemic arterial systems. Statins have been consistently proved to attenuate inflammation and improve endothelial function. In this study, we tested the effect of different doses of statin on inflammatory response and endothelium-dependent vasodilation.

Study of the Effects of Cerefolin NAC on Inflammation Blood Markers in Older Individuals With Memory...

Subjective Memory Loss in Older Persons

The purpose of this six-month research study is to determine if Cerefolin NAC reduces levels of substances in the blood that may be associated with thinking ability and the health of brain cells in subjects with memory concerns when compared to a standard multivitamin. Cerefolin NAC is available as a dietary supplement via a prescription from a physician. The multivitamin used in the study contains the Recommended Daily Intake recommended for older persons.

Study on Whether Tart Cherry Juice Can Reduce Oxidative Stress and Inflammation

Oxidative StressAntioxidant Capacity1 more

Oxidative stress has been linked to many diseases associated with aging, including coronary heart disease and Alzheimer's disease. Antioxidants and special proteins in the body work together to help prevent damage by free radicals. Some studies have indicated that as people age, they are less able to fight off oxidative stress and have increased levels of inflammation. Tart cherries are known to be rich in antioxidants and plant-nutrients. The product we are using in this study is an all-natural tart cherry juice, mixed with apple juice concentrate and containing no additives and no preservatives. We hope to learn whether antioxidant supplementation, such as tart cherry juice, can measurably decrease oxidative damage and inflammation associated with aging.

Tolerability, Efficacy and Mucosal Inflammation Associated With Orally Administered Colon Cleansing...

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is the gold standard investigation for assessing the lining of the colon. Colon cleansing preparations are required to be taken prior to colonoscopy to provide effective visualisation and identification of any abnormalities and different types of colon cleansing preparations exist. Some colon cleansing preparations have been shown to cause visible changes in the lining of the bowel which may cause confusion and incorrect diagnoses to be made. This audit aims to assess the ability of different colon cleansing preparations to clear the colon of faeces. The tolerability of each will also be assessed, as will any changes in the lining of the bowel to assess if one type of colon preparation is more likely to cause visible changes than another.

A Study To Look At The Safety Of SB-681323 In Healthy Adult Subjects After Intravenous Administration...

ArthritisRheumatoid1 more

SB-681323 inhibits the action of an enzyme which is known to contribute to the inflammation seen in such conditions as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis. This study will explore the safety of this drug and its blood levels when given in intravenous form to healthy human volunteers.
