The study intends to investigate the use of a novel gaz-composition used during laparoscopy upon pain and inflammation in the post-operative period.

Aims of the study were to find vascular markers of inflammation and endothelial damage during the course of severe sepsis in septic patients and the effects of treatment with anti-inflammatory medication (such as Drotregocin alfa (activated)). Another aim is to find new markers and gene polymorphisms for prognosis and mortality of patients with severe sepsis. The hypothesis is that higher plasma concentrations of certain markers in septic patients are associated with a higher mortality rate.

The product we are using in this study is an all-natural tart cherry juice, mixed with apple juice concentrate and containing no additives and no preservatives. We hope to learn whether antioxidant supplementation, such as tart cherry juice, can measurably decrease oxidative damage and inflammation associated with aging.

Colonoscopy is the gold standard investigation for assessing the lining of the colon. Colon cleansing preparations are required to be taken prior to colonoscopy to provide effective visualisation and identification of any abnormalities and different types of colon cleansing preparations exist. Some colon cleansing preparations have been shown to cause visible changes in the lining of the bowel which may cause confusion and incorrect diagnoses to be made. This audit aims to assess the ability of different colon cleansing preparations to clear the colon of faeces. The tolerability of each will also be assessed, as will any changes in the lining of the bowel to assess if one type of colon preparation is more likely to cause visible changes than another.

SB-681323 inhibits the action of an enzyme which is known to contribute to the inflammation seen in such conditions as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
