Exercise and Inflammation

Cardiovascular Disease

The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that aerobic exercise leads to attenuation of the inflammatory response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation.

Hybrid Model of Vocal Inflammation and Tissue Mobilization

Acute Phonotrauma

The purpose of this study is to generate a technology that will allow clinicians to prescribe behavioral treatment that should optimize tissue healing for both acute and chronic phonotrauma. In this study, we propose to (1): establish a non-invasive methodology for estimating overall mechanical dose during phonation, and component metrics of phonatory mechanical dose (e.g., distance dose, energy dissipation dose and time dose) from high speed imaging data and aeromechanical modeling, for a range of vocal fold configurations (Experiment 1); (2): identify mathematical relations between treatment dose parameters, inflammatory state of the tissue and time-varying biological consequences in the tissue, up to 2 wk following acute phonotrauma (Experiment 2); (3): develop a hybrid physical-biological model of vocal fold inflammation and treatment to identify treatment modalities that should optimize post-traumatic wound healing at 2 wk, for a range of acute phonotraumatic conditions (Experiment 3-no human subject involved), and (4): provide a preliminary test of the hybrid treatment models' ability to predict idealized treatment outcome in human subjects, and calibrate the model as needed iteratively to achieve a match between predicted and obtained outcomes (Experiment 4).

UVB Model Validation Study

PainInflammation1 more

Single centre, subject and observer blinded, placebo controlled, cross-over study of the effect of oral ibuprofen and topical hydrocortisone-21-acetate on ultraviolet radiation (UVR) induced pain and inflammation in healthy volunteers conducted in two segments and using an intra-individual comparison of application areas.

Effect of Alcohol Consumption on Markers of Inflammation

Alcohol ConsumptionInflammation

Rationale: High-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is consistently increased after moderate alcohol consumption, is an abundant plasma lipoprotein that is generally thought to be anti-inflammatory in both health and infectious disease. HDL binds and neutralizes the bioactivity of potent bacterial remnants such as lipopolysaccharides (LPS) which stimulate the host innate immune responses. Primary objective: To explore whether prolonged moderate alcohol consumption affects in vivo cytokine response after a low dose of LPS in young, normal-weight men.

Comparison of Soy-milk and Cow Milk Consumption on Inflammatory Factors, Cardiovascular Factors...

InflammationOxidative Stress2 more

Soymilk components such as isoflavones, essential fatty acids, phytoesterols, good fats, inositols might have beneficial effects on controlling complication among diabetic nephropathy patients(DN).Most studies in this regard have been examined the effect of soy consumption on cardiorenal risk factors among patients with DN and there are few data about relationship of soy milk consumption and health effect in patients with DN . Therefore, we evaluated the effects of soy milk compared to cow's milk on blood pressure, inflammation, oxidative stress and fibrinolytic markers and cardiorenal risk factors among these patients. This was a cross-over randomized clinical trial which was conducted in Isfahan among diabetic nephropathy patients. Patients were randomly assigned to consume a diet containing cow's milk or a diet in which only one glass of soy milk was substituted; each one for 4 weeks.

Treatment of Early Phase Achilles Tendinopathy - the Effect of NSAIDs

Tendon InjuriesAchilles Tendinopathy1 more

this study evaluates the addition of initial short term NSAID treatment to physiotherapy prescribed exercise treatment in patient with early phase tendinopathy. Half of the participants will initially receive NSAID (naproxen) for 7 days, while the other half will receive a placebo, where after both groups will be subjected to 3 months heavy slow resistance training.

Importance of Neurogenic Inflammation in the Angiogenic Response of the Dental Pulp as a Defensive...

Occlusal TraumaOrthodontic Appliance Complication

This study measures SP, CGRP and VEGF expression in human dental pulp under occlusal trauma induced by occlusal interferences under moderate orthodontic forces or under a combination of occlusal trauma and moderate orthodontic forces because in clinical reality, patients under orthodontic treatment experience a combination of these stimuli on their pulp tissue.
