Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Tocotrienol Supplementation in Subjects With Moderately Elevated Inflammation...

InflammationCardiovascular Risk Factor

The objective of this study is to address the anti-inflammatory effect of tocotrienol supplementation in subjects with moderately elevated inflammation. It is hypothesized that 6 months supplementation of tocotrienols will reduce inflammatory markers of subjects.

Impact of Specific Antimicrobials and MIC Values on the Outcome of Bloodstream Infections Due to...

Clinically Significant BacteremiaOrgan Transplantation7 more

Main objective: to observationally assess the efficacy and safety of different antimicrobials in BSI due to ESBL or carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales in SOT. Secondary objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of different antibiotics used for the treatment of infections caused by ESBL- and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales in the SOT population. To compare the efficacy of different antimicrobials between SOT and non-SOT patients (using matched controls from the "non-transplant" INCREMENT cohort). To create a microbiological collection of ESBL- and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales isolated from the SOT population. To provide data on specific MICs for each antimicrobial evaluated. To provide data on the prevalence of specific mechanisms of resistance and their clinical impact in the particular setting of SOT. To organise an international consortium capable of developing high quality prospective cohort studies and randomised clinical trials in the area of MDR and XDR Enterobacterales in SOT.

Advanced Oxidation Protein Product and Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 in Periodontal Disease...

InflammationPeriodontal Disease

This study investigates the levels of advanced oxidation protein product and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 in gingival crevicular fluid in periodontal disease and health. 25 participants with chronic periodontitis, 25 participants with gingivitis and 25 periodontally healthy subjects are included into this study. In each participant, four sites are identified for gingival crevicular fluid samples.

Markers of Inflammation and Lung Recovery in ECMO Patients for PPHN

Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn

Respiratory failure in newborns is common and has high rates of death. Where conventional intensive care strategies have failed, newborn children are referred to treatment with Extra- Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). This involves connecting children via large bore cannulas placed in their heart and major blood vessels to an artificial lung that adds oxygen to their blood and removes waste gases (carbon dioxide). Although this treatment saves lives, it still has some limitations. In particular, severe complications like bleeding, or damage to the kidneys can occur. These complications can lead to death in some cases and long-term disability in others. Based on ongoing research in adults and children undergoing cardiac surgery the investigators have identified a new process that may underlie some of the complications observed in ECMO. The investigators have noted that when transfused blood is infused in an ECMO circuit, this results in the accelerated release of substances from the donor cells that cause organ damage; at least in adults. There are treatments that can reverse this process. Before the investigators explore whether these treatments should be used in newborn children on ECMO, the investigators must first demonstrate that they can measure the complex inflammatory processes that occur in these critically ill children. The investigators therefore propose to conduct a feasibility study to identify the practical issues and challenges that would need to be overcome in order to perform a successful trial in this high-risk population.

Effect of Dietary Inflammatory Index on Inflammatory Markers and Metabolic Parameters, in Patients...

Type 2 DiabetesDietary Inflammatory Index (DII)2 more

Nutrition is essential in the treatment and management of Type 2 Diabetes. The importance of adding foods with anti-inflammatory effects to daily diet plans in ensuring glycemic control, preventing the progression of diabetes, and reducing the risk of complications in the future is revealed by new studies added to the literature every day. This study aimed to determine the effects of the dietary inflammatory index (DII) on inflammation markers and metabolic parameters by determining the food consumption status of adults with type 2 diabetes who have good glycemic control.

Evaluation of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation Markers in Temporomandibular Disorders

Temporomandibular DisorderOxidative Stress1 more

Background: The occurrence of many diseases has been associated with oxidative stress and disruption of antioxidant mechanisms. Temporomandibular Joint(TMJ) Disorders are also thought to develop with the onset of the destructive process in the tissues as a result of this balance being disrupted. Purpose: This study was designed to compare salivary and serum oxidative stress and inflammation markers of individuals with Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and healthy subjects. Study design, setting, and sample: A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted. 27 TMD patients diagnosed with disc displacement (DD) according to RDC/TMD and 17 healthy subjects were enrolled in the study. Prior to any treatment, serum and saliva samples were taken from the patients and centrifuged, and stored at -80°C until analyzed. All samples were examined for IL-6, MDA and 8-OHdG concentrations. Predictor variable: Diagnosis of disc displacement (RDC/TMD) Main outcome variables: Levels of 8-OHdG, IL-6 and MDA Covariates: Age and gender

Subclinical Impairment of Cardiovascular System in Patients With Psoriasis

PsoriasisInflammation5 more

A cross-sectional study will be conducted, which will include 80 young patients with psoriasis, aged 30-45 years, treated with five different types of antipsoriatic treatment, and 20 healthy patients. All 100 subjects will be subjected to anthropometric measurements, blood will be collected for laboratory tests, and an imaging test will be performed to determine the function of the endothelium and arterial stiffness. The results will then be statistically analyzed.

Nutritional Intervention With Black Garlic

HypercholesterolemiaHypertension3 more

A controlled clinical intervention study is proposed to determine the effect of black garlic consumption on biomarkers of cardiovascular function and associated pathologies in a healthy population at risk for cardiovascular disease. Black garlic is the result of a fermentation process of common white garlic in which the temperature and humidity are kept constant over a long period of time. Black garlic is particularly rich in phenolic compounds such as S-allylcysteine or S-allyl-mercaptocysteine, with antioxidant action. It also provides vitamin C and other valuable antioxidant substances such as flavonoids.
