ObesityAtherosclerosis3 moreTo work against the increasing burden of obesity, the STYJOBS / EDECTA (STYrian Juvenile OBesity Study / Early DetECtion of Atherosclerosis) project was started at the Medical University of Graz in 2003. STYJOBS / EDECTA is a prospective, observational study to improve the understanding of atherosclerosis, cardiovascular risk, immune mediated low grade Inflammation, metabolic changes, and general disease propensity in obesity. The investigation of the "non-biased" early phase is strongly focused. Based on this information, new and effective strategies for preclinical diagnostics and early intervention are of main interest. We seek a better understanding of critical lipid profiles, chronic immune-mediated inflammation, disturbed adipokine balance, critical adipose tissue topography, addiction like behaviour, genetics/epigenetics, early vascular pathology, and fatty liver disease. Interventional branches of study tested a holistic strategy comprehending sports, and lifestyle modification for efficiency. The investigative spectrum of STYJOBS / EDECTA comprehends also non-obese body weight extremes i.e. underweight/anorectic people.

The study will also include a complete economic analysis of the LAP-BAND procedure and follow-up costs Hypothesis: Measurements defining quality of life and the severity of obesity and obesity related comorbidities improve significantly over baseline with the LAP-BAND System treatment at 6 and 12 months post surgery when performed by an experienced surgeon.

Several comorbidities and interventions like antivirotic or antiinflammatory treatment may also modify expected patients response and decrease of viral load. In this observational study, evolution of selected inflammatory markers, indicators of severity of infection and patient characteristics will be followed and recorded in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

To update the recommendations, the Diabetes and Nutrition Study Group (DNSG) of the EASD commissioned an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) approach to summarize the available evidence from recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses of prospective cohort studies and randomized and non-randomized controlled trials of the relationship between the DASH dietary pattern and cardiometabolic risk.

Serum level of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) was measured and the clinical features of patients (including angiographic results) were entered into our database. Clinical follow-up was performed for all patients, and the relationship between AGEs and paitents' outcome were analyzed. Further intervention will be adjusted according to the results,including clinical and basic research in lab.
Inflammation and Post-Stroke Depression
StrokeAcute StrokeThis study is being done to see if there is a relationship between stroke, post-stroke depression, and measures of inflammatory and/or stress compounds in the blood. Brain injury, as caused by stroke, leads to an inflammatory response in the brain which in turn can influence inflammatory and stress responses in other parts of the body outside of the brain. These responses can be measured by analyzing various substances in the blood and in the white blood cells. The investigators will measure these substances (cytokines, glucocorticoids) and compare them to the absence, presence, or degree of depression that the investigators will determine by neurological and psychological testing. The investigators will be drawing blood for this study on admission, at or around day 3, at or around day 7 and at or around day 90, which is not part of routine stroke care. The investigators will be asking subjects to participate in answering question/scales on these same days, some of these questionnaires are also not part of routine stroke care. Standard stroke care is being done other than blood drawing/participating in answering questions/scales. Approximately 25 people will be enrolled over one year.
