
Light in Frail Elderly - the Effect of a Dynamic Light for Sleep and Circadian Rhythm
AgedCircadian Rhythm10 moreThe aim of this project is to evaluate the effect of a dynamic light in order to improve the circadian rhythm, provide a better sleep and well-being, and in the long run an improved recovery. The primary question is whether dynamic artificial light with circadian stimulus can affect the circadian rhythm. The secondary question is whether this also provides better sleep and well-being. The group that is particularly interesting to study is a geriatric population that is more sensitive to circadian rhythm disorders, sleep disorders and confusion in connection with hospitalization and that can be of particular benefit from this intervention.

Psychosocial stress and childhood trauma each are associated with risk for PTB and PTB has an intergenerational impact: mothers born preterm are more likely to give birth pretern, especially amongst Black women. Vitamin D, Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Hemodialysis
Oxidative StressInflammation1 moreVitamin D deficiency is now considered a global problem in general population, but it seemed to be more prominent in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, especially those on regular hemodialysis. Being a key regulator in mineral metabolism, there's also emerging evidences linking vitamin D deficiency with inflammation and oxidative stress, which are both recognized as constant threats to cardiovascular outcomes in hemodialysis patients. It's prospective, randomized trial that's carried out to evaluate the effect of weekly versus, monthly oral cholecalciferol, on vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels, oxidative stress markers, inflammatory markers and secondary hyperparathyroidism in hemodialysis patients. Fifty eligible hemodialysis patients were randomly assigned to either Group A (Oral 50.000IU Cholecalciferol, once weekly) or Group B (Oral 200.000IU Cholecalciferol, once monthly), for 3 months. Studying the Effects of Cannabis on Vasculature

In this project, the investigators plan to study the effects of cannabis on the cardiovascular system. This will be done by using a non-invasive test to measure blood vessel function and by using blood samples to measure inflammation. As a control for this project, the investigators would like to test the blood vessel function and inflammation levels of participants who do not use cannabis. This study will provide important information on the long term cardiovascular effects of cannabis.

Vitreous InflammationThe inflammatory response after prolonged retinal detachment and after vitreoretinal surgery has its apex in the development of PVR that occurs when retinal cells are exposed to the inflammatory milieu in the humor vitreous. This situation is common in complicated retinal detachment, but is amplified after invasive surgery and by the use of intraocular tamponades that float over a subtle film of liquid where the inflammatory cytokines and growth factors reach the critical concentration over the inferior retina. Many authors have noted that the heavy tamponade are more prone to cause intraocular inflammation compared to standard silicone oil, especially if they remain for several months in the eye. The purpose of this study is to measure the vitreous concentration of some of the most important cytokines involved in the inflammatory vitreal response.
