Effect of Resveratrol and Vitamin C on Insulin Resistance Among Postmenopausal Women

PostmenopausalInsulin Resistance

Hormonal and metabolic changes because of postmenopause increase body weight, central abdominal fat, alter lipid profile and insulin resistance, those factors increase the risk up to 60% to develop metabolic syndrome, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Because there is no efficient antioxidant therapy in postmenopausal women, this study proposes a therapy with resveratrol and vitamin C to increase the total antioxidant capacity; as well as to decrease insulin resistance and in consequence decreased the risk of diabetes, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease

Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Improvement With Nutrition and Exercise (PHINE)

Pulmonary Arterial HypertensionInsulin Resistance

The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which diet and exercise may improve PAH through the modulation of insulin sensitivity. The central hypothesis is that dysregulated glucose metabolism elicits a response in PAH patients that can be modified by exercise and diet, thereby leading to improvements in pulmonary vascular disease.

Overweight and ObesityElevated Triglycerides

The objectives of this trial are to assess the effects of adding 2 servings/d of either full-fat or low-fat fermented dairy products to the diet, as a replacement for non-dairy foods with macronutrient composition similar to the low-fat fermented dairy condition, on insulin sensitivity, erythrocyte fatty acid profile and other cardiometabolic health markers in metabolically at-risk adults.

Effect of Fucoxanthin on the Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Sensitivity and Insulin Secretion

Metabolic Syndrome

The Metabolic Syndrome (MS) is a cluster of cardiometabolic risk factors, which include abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and high blood pressure. MS is considered a serious problem to health systems due to a current inability on implementing an effective prevention and treatment program. In Mexico 73% of adult population suffers obesity or overweight, this condition triggers the best studied pathophysiological mechanism; insulin resistance, which in turn precedes the diagnosis of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, that are the main cause of general mortality in Mexico, thus the prevention and timely treatment of this condition are now a priority. Actual pharmacological therapy is designed to control its components individually, however, there are great interest in developing new therapeutic lines that improve more than one component simultaneously and thereby increase the cost-benefit and effectiveness of the therapy. Fucoxanthin is a functional element present in seaweed species. Several studies have offered certain perspectives on its action mechanism and safety. The information available is favorable for weight control in overweight subjects, but its activity in glucose levels, lipid metabolism and blood pressure is inconsistent. It represents a natural option with great interest in this research, since it could be a new, safe and effective therapy in the MS. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of fucoxanthin on the components of the MS, insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion. The investigators hypothesis is that Fucoxanthin modifies the components of the MS, insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion

Metabolic SyndromeAtherogenic Dyslipidemia2 more

This study aims to explore the dose effects of three weekly volumes of high-intensity functional training (HIFT) on apolipoprotein B (ApoB), triglyceride (TG) and cholesterol (CHOL) content of low-density lipoproteins (LDL), very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), and high-density lipoproteins (HDL) particles, fasting insulin and glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and endothelial function after a 12-week training program. Secondarily, this study aims to also explore the subjective dose-responses of "exercise enjoyment" and "intention to continue" after this 12-week training program.

Effect of Ellagic Ácid on the Components of Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Sensitivity and Insulin...

Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a group of important cardiovascular risk factors: abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, and high blood pressure. Treatment requires lifestyle changes and pharmacological therapy with different medications for each component. Ellagic acid (EA) is a polyphenol that has shown health benefits in multiple experimental studies. Patients consume EA without prescription; considering there aren't studies that demonstrate its effectiveness on MetS, it is important to evaluate the possible effects of AE on this pathology. METHODOLOGY: Current study is a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of AE on the components of metabolic syndrome, insulin sensitivity, and insulin secretion.

HIV-1-infectionAdiposity3 more

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of a drug called semaglutide and to see whether it can reduce IHTG. IHTG will be measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; an MRI machine contains a powerful magnet that uses simple radio waves to take pictures of organs). Semaglutide (brand name Ozempic®) is a drug that is used to treat people who have diabetes; it also causes weight loss and may provide some protection against cardiovascular disease and diabetes. In PLWH, the use of semaglutide to reduce weight and the level of IHTG are experimental.

PreDiabetesImpaired Glucose Tolerance3 more

Pre diabetes (PD) is a term that refers to alterations in blood glucose levels, including impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or both, and increase in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), all this factors involving a higher risk to develop type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The efficacy of pharmacotherapy in the prevention of diabetes in adults with pre diabetes has been demonstrated, the first line of pharmacology treatment is metformin, on the other hand, probiotics administration has been reported to be one of the most widely used approaches to modulate the gut microbiota and subsequently prevent or delay the incidence of T2DM. Probiotics are live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host. Has been demonstrated the hypoglycemic effects of the probiotics in different clinical trials in type 2 diabetes mellitus and pre diabetes, but no yet compared with metformin, for this reason comparing it´s activity against metformin in pre diabetes would provide impact information on a new alternative treatment compared with the standard pharmacological treatment. The aim of the study is evaluate the effect of administration of probiotic versus metformin on glycemic control, insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity in patients with pre diabetes.
