Pilot Study on Metabolic Effects of Fish Peptides and Vitamin D

PrediabetesInsulin Resistance

The overall goal of this study is to investigate the effects and the mechanisms of action of a fish peptide and vitamin D on glucose metabolism, insulin secretion, and cardiometabolic risk profile in overweight men. Transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches will be used to study the acute physiological effects of fish nutrients and to discover gene/metabolite networks that underlie these effects.

The Impact Of An Intermittent Energy Restricted Diet On Insulin Sensitivity In Men and Women With...

ObesityAbdominal

An intermittent energy restricted (IER) diet may modify cardio-metabolic disease risk factors compared to an energy-matched continuous energy restricted (CER) diet. A randomised controlled parallel design trial will determine the impact of a short-term IER diet (2 consecutive days of very low calorie diet (VLCD), 5 days moderate energy restriction each week for a 4 week period), compared to a CER diet, on insulin sensitivity in healthy (disease-free) subjects with central obesity.

Efficacy of a Bilberry-based Probiotic Product on Glucose Tolerance and Insulin Resistance

Insulin Resistance

The impact of a bilberry-based probiotic drink on the postprandial levels of serum glucose and insulin have already been study in the past. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the long term effect of the probiotic bilberry drink on glucose tolerance and insulin resistance in healthy adults and in comparison to a control drink.

Postprandial Efficacy of Probiotic Fruit Beverages on Glucose Tolerance and Insulin Resistance

Postprandial Hyperglycemia

Consumption of polyphenol-rich fruits and vegetables may improve the postprandial glucose and insulin responses and hence promote well-being. It has previously been observed that consumption of a bilberry drink decreases the postprandial insulin demand. In the present study, the impact of probiotic fruit beverages with different polyphenol profiles on the postprandial levels of glucose and insulin, were investigated.

Influence of Prior Walking on Postprandial Metabolism in Centrally Obese Men

Diabetes MellitusType 24 more

The present study will investigate the effect of prior walking on postprandial metabolism and endothelial function in centrally obese South Asian and White European men. Participants will complete two, 2-day trials in a random, crossover design separated by at least a week. On day 1, participants will either rest or complete a 60 minute walk at 60% maximal oxygen uptake. On day 2, participants will arrive at 08:00 having fasted overnight and a baseline venous blood sample and endothelial function measurement will be taken. Participants will consume a high-fat breakfast and lunch and 12 subsequent venous blood samples will be taken throughout the day at standardised intervals to measure a variety of coronary heart disease risk markers. A second endothelial function measurement will be completed 2 hours after the breakfast. Blood pressure will be measured every hour. It is expected that the South Asian participants will have impaired metabolism and endothelial function compared to their European counterparts but the bout of exercise performed on day 1 will mitigate these responses.

Potato Research for Enhancing Metabolic Outcomes

Insulin ResistanceObesity

The potato is a nutritious food that comprises approximately 30% of total vegetable intake in the United States (US). Consumption of pulses in the US is low but its contribution to health is frequently promoted. However, in the US diet, potatoes contribute as much dietary fiber, far more potassium, and a host of similar nutrients as pulses. When prepared to enhance its slowly digested starch content, potatoes produce a moderate glycemic response. In encouraging a shift towards plant-based foods and sustainable diets, the potato can partially replace meat in meat dishes to enhance the overall quality of the diet and reduce meat intake to recommended levels.

Chronic Hepatitis c

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the major globally cause of death and morbidity.Chronic hepatitis C is the leading cause of end-stage liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver-related death in Egypt. It could be considered a special type of metabolic diseases involving insulin resistance (IR) which accelerates fibrosis and modulation of lipid-cholesterol biosynthesis with increased risk for ischemic heart diseases. It could be considered a special type of metabolic diseases involving insulin resistance (IR) which accelerates fibrosis and modulation of lipid-cholesterol biosynthesis with increased risk for ischemic heart diseases .Increased prevalence of IR and type 2 diabetes mellitus extensively reported in HCV infections
