The aim of this study is to evaluate benefits of the method of dental sedation using Target controlled infusion (TCI) combined with Bispectral index (BIS) monitoring in patients with Mental Retardation and challenging behavior.

The study uses a randomized controlled study design of pediatric neurologists and developmental pediatricians and front-line (primary care) pediatricians to determine if use of FirstStepDx PLUS and Next StepDx PLUS are associated with higher clinical quality, less variability in clinical practice, and lower costs from decreased resource utilization. The Clinical Performance and Value Vignettes (CPV) used in this study simulate a clinical encounter for individuals with an atypical phenotype and clinical presentation indicative of a possible genetic disorder. We will measure the difference in combined diagnostic and treatment CPV® domain score post-intervention versus baseline comparing intervention and control groups

Resistance exercise (RE) has been proposed as a possible strategy for prevention and rehabilitation of diseases. The increase in both muscle strength and the ability to perform tasks of day-to-day work environment and are well-characterized benefits of this type of training. The literature has been investigating the effectiveness of the RE for humans, yet few studies have been conducted with intellectual disabilities (ID). It is known that a sedentary lifestyle contributes to the development of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, and stress, depression, difficulty in socializing, stigma and discrimination. In particular, the ID is less active and is more likely to develop secondary diseases.

With Leap Motion Controller, virtual reality exercises have been implemented more often since 2014, and this technology has benefited more from upper extremity rehabilitation In literature, there are no publications investigating the effectiveness of virtual reality applications on upper extremity functions in cases of mental retardation with Leap Motion. We think that virtual reality applications with Leap Motion are effective in fine motor skills and grip strength in cases of mental retardation. The purpose of our work; To Investigation of the Effectiveness of Video Based Games on Upper Extremity Functions in Mild Mental Retardation Diagnosed Cases

Many people with intellectual disability have challenging behaviour which often has serious consequences such as the prescription of long term medication, in-patient admissions and disruption of normal daily activities. Community intellectual disability services may have difficulties in helping people with challenging behavior. Available research suggests that Positive Behavior Support (PBS), a training system that teaches staff how to manage these situations, can benefit service users who may show improvements in challenging behavior and quality of life. The investigators do not know of any study so far that has examined the clinical and cost effectiveness of PBS that is provided by staff in routine clinical practice in community intellectual disability services. If PBS proved to be better than treatment as usual, it would have important implications for the management of a very vulnerable group of service users. In this trial, health staff will receive accredited training in PBS available in a manual written by PBS experts. It will give details of how to understand challenging behavior and develop a management plan and how to implement it and monitor whether it has achieved its goals. Twenty community intellectual disability services and 260 service users with mild to severe intellectual disability and challenging behavior will be invited to take part in the study. The sample size calculations are based on our pilot study and allow for non participation of 10% and inflation due to the number of community intellectual disability teams and staff that will take part. The teams will be randomly allocated into one of two conditions. Half will be in the PBS arm (but will also have treatment as usual) and half will be in the treatment as usual only group. The investigators will carry out assessments of challenging behavior, use of services, quality of life, mental health, aggression and family and paid carer burden at six and 12 months. The investigators will monitor treatment fidelity and the investigators will talk to a sample of paid and family carers, service users, staff and managers about what they think of the treatment and how best the investigators can deliver it in routine care. The main outcome is reduction in challenging behavior at one year after the randomization. The investigators will also carry out a health economic evaluation to examine the costs and consequences of staff training in PBS.

The purpose of this study is to help individuals and their caregivers develop a plan on how to recognize, deal with and respond to abusive situations.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate a 2-3 day treatment probe targeted to improving social gaze behavior in children with fragile X syndrome (FXS). The investigators will use the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to shape appropriate social skills. Importantly, the investigators propose to examine the effects of this treatment probe on brain and behavior.

Hepatic encephalopathy is a syndrome occurs in patients with liver cirrhosis and is defined as neuropsychiatric abnormalities in patients with liver impairment, characterized by personality changes, intellectual impairment, and an impaired level of consciousness. Depression is common, but no psychological interventions have been tested to see if they work for adults with severe intellectual disabilities. The research team recently successfully completed a full-scale trial of a psychological intervention, BeatIt, for depressed adults with mild/moderate intellectual disabilities. The aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the feasibility of modifying BeatIt for depressed adults with severe intellectual disabilities, collecting the information needed on likely recruitment, measures, and waiting list control arm options, to design a full-scale study.

Mental retardation is a condition diagnosed before age 18 that includes below-average general intellectual function, and a lack of the skills necessary for daily living. Mental retardation affects about 1 - 3% of the population. There are many causes of mental retardation, but find a specific reason in only 25% of cases.Bone marrow derived stem cells are used in this condition to prove its safety and efficacy .
