Platelet Activating Factor Stability in Urine
Interstitial CystitisThe investigator's hypothesis is that smoking induces inflammation in the bladder wall. This may predispose to the development of Interstitial cystitis(IC) / bladder pain syndrome(BPS). Previous research has linked one the Platelet Activating Factor - PAF to interstitial cystitis. The investigators will study a limited number of patients to determine whether PAF is stable in urine and whether special precautions (for example - immediate freezing in liquid nitrogen) is necessary for accurate measurement of PAF in the urine. Patients who are presenting for an office visit will be asked to donate at least 50 ml of urine. A separate group of patients who are scheduled for surgery, are also being asked to donate around 25 ml of urine during surgery. No patient data other than group assignment, whether they smoke or if they have or not have interstitial cystitis will be recorded.
Trans-MAPP II Study of Urologic Chronic Pelvin Pain
Interstitial CystitisChronic ProstatitisThe Multidisciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP) Research Network has been established by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to focus on a broader approach to the study of Interstitial Cystitis (IC)/ Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS) in men and women, and Chronic Prostatitis (CP)/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS) in men, than previously undertaken. Patients with IC or CP are being recruited for a new study called the "Trans-MAPP Study of Urologic Chronic Pelvic Pain: Symptom Patterns Study (SPS). This research study will recruit Control Participants to better understand the symptoms of individuals with some form of IC or CP. As with many chronic pain disorders, IC and CP are poorly understood, and treatment is often not helpful. The goal of this study is to better understand how pain is felt in people with IC or CP and the investigators hope that this study will lead to improvement in the treatment of IC and CP.

Interstitial CystitisThe purpose of this study is to observe change of distribution pattern of Hunner's ulcer in patient with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome
Urology Database to Evaluate Clinical Information and Improve Patient Care.

Identifying Predictors of Treatment Success in Painful Bladder Syndrome
Painful Bladder SyndromeStudy aims to: (1) evaluate the role of morphological and physiological characteristics of the pelvic floor, pain-related psychological and -psychophysical variables in prediction of the success of myofascial physical therapy (MPT) for the treatment of painful bladder syndrome Patients with clinical symptoms of PBS will undergo physical examination, sensory testing in the genital area, perineal ultrasound examination for the evaluation of the length of the levator muscles before MPT and following 10 consecutive sessions of MPT. Improvement in clinical symptoms will be assessed and evaluated for correlations with psychophysical examinations.
Microbiome of Urologic Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome
ProstatitisChronic Prostatitis3 moreThis research is being done to learn more about the bacteria that live in the genito-urinary tract in subjects with urologic chronic pelvic pain syndrome (UCPPS).
Autonomic Response During Cystodistension in Patients Suspected of Having Interstitial Cystitis...
Interstitial CystitisThe aim of this study is to check whether patients with cystoscopic findings supporting the diagnosis of Interstitial Cystitis (IC) have a higher autonomic response (change in blood pressure / pulse)than patients without cystoscopic findings.
A Study to Determine the Role of Toll-like Receptor-4 Expression in Patients With Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder...
CystitisInterstitial1 moreThis is a prospective pilot study, with a recruitment goal of 60 patients. Patients who are female, above the age of 18, and with a diagnosis of IC/BPS based on clinical criteria and O'Leary Sant ICPI and ICSI scores undergoing cystoscopy, hydrodistention and bladder biopsy will be included. The bladder biopsies will be evaluated for TLR4 expression, and sent for histological assessment of mast cell count. Additionally, data will be collected at baseline, day of surgery, day 7, day 14 and day 28. Data will include validated questionnaires, lower urinary tract symptoms, and recorded pain medication use.
