eLIFEwithIBD - Living With Intention, Fullness and Engagement With Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Online)...

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

This study aims to test the acceptability and preliminary efficacy of an online intervention (eLIFEwithIBD) developed for people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The eLIFEwithIBD intervention is an adaptation of the LIFEwithIBD program (delivered in an in-person group format; Trindade et al., 2021), being an ACT, mindfulness, and compassion-based intervention. The eLIFEwithIBD intervention comprises nine sessions focusing on education about IBD, the functioning of the mind, emotions, and fatigue; acceptance of internal experiences; willingness; emotion regulation; values clarification; committed action; mindfulness; compassion; and gratitude. These topics are addressed through videos with therapists, texts, and experiential exercises.

Digital Behavioral Interventions in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Crohn DiseaseUlcerative Colitis5 more

Given the bidirectionality between psychological distress and disease activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), whereby increased psychological distress exacerbates disease activity and vice versa, psychosocial aspects of IBD care are receiving increased attention. However, proposed interventions are generally resource-intensive and have been tested in majority white populations. While people of color are an increasing segment of the IBD population, they are currently underrepresented in research studies. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and implementation of internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) among IBD patients of color with elevated psychological distress.

FatigueInflammatory Bowel Disease

Fatigue is a common symptom in inflammatory bowel diseaseI and persists despite clinical remission. Fatigue in patients with chronic diseases can be objectified by the FACIT-F scale. Acupuncture has been shown useful in the treatment of fatigue in various chronic diseases. This study evaluates the effect of electroacupuncture in the treatment of fatigue in patients with quiescent inflammatory bowel disease. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease and severe fatigue (FACIT-F score <38) who agree to participate in the study will be randomized to three different treatments: electroacupuncture vs. sham electroacupuncture vs. control group.

Diaphragmatic Breathing as an Adjunctive Therapy in the Management of Children With Bladder and...

Bladder and Bowel DisorderPediatric

Urination is a result of a complex neuro-muscular coordination which involves the action and arrangement of different parts of nervous systems as well as the muscular structure of the lower part of the urinary system. When there is an abnormal pattern in bladder and bowel habits without any known neuronal lesions, the condition is called bladder and bowel disorder (BBD). The symptoms can range from the feeling of rushing to the toilet, urinary accidents to urinating much less than expected during the day. The standard treatment for most cases of BBD starts with Standard Urotherapy (SU) which is a beneficial basic and harmless form of treatment widely used for all children with BBD. SU involves explaining of the problem to the children and their parents by the doctors and educating them on proper voiding mechanisms, sitting, and standing positions as well as how and when to void. The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of testing the additive effectiveness of Diaphragmatic Breathing exercise (DB) as an alternative and harmless additional treatment to SU in children with BBD.
