A Comparison of Two Colonoscopic Withdrawal Techniques
Intestinal PolypsThis study will compare two strategies for colonoscope withdrawal, using polyp detection as the primary outcome measure, to determine the optimal withdrawal strategy. Null Hypothesis: On withdrawal of the colonoscope, examining patients with dynamic position change does not yield more polyps than the supine position. Alternative Hypothesis: On withdrawal of the colonoscope, examining the patients with dynamic position change improves polyp detection compared to the supine position.
Comparison of Narrow Band Imaging With or Without Magnifying Colonoscopy
Intestinal PolypsThe aim of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of magnifying colonoscopy with narrow band imaging.
Phytoestrogens and Colonic Adenomatous Polyps
Intestinal PolypsINTRODUCTION: The data obtained by experimental studies about the influence of phytoestrogens on colorectal cancer (CRC) have been very promising. On the other hand, clinical trials have produced conflicting results. The literature suggests that some subclasses of phytoestrogens may have protective effects against CRC and colon adenomas, but most of these results come from population studies based on the dietary intake of phytoestrogens. On these premises, it is possible to hypothesize that the variability of the data reported in the literature may be due to the fact that the real absorption of phytoestrogens (by assessing their concentration in the serum or urine) and/or the ability of the single individual of producing equol was not evaluated. PURPOSE: In the present study, the association between the phytoestrogens intake and the prevalence of colon adenomas was evaluated not only on the basis of the simply dietary intake but also on the measurement their intestinal absorption. Moreover, a specific evaluation of equol production by the intestinal flora was performed. Finally, intestinal bacteria involved in equol production were evaluated.
The Metabolomics of Intestinal Polyps of Different Pathological Types and TCM Syndromes and TCM...
Intestinal PolypsThe aim of this study is to confirm the TCM syndrome types and TCM constitution classifications of the patients with intestinal polyps via on-site epidemiological survey, to analyze metabolomics of the serum samples of intestinal polyps and healthy volunteers, and to study the metabolomics differences of the two populations and the metabolomics variations of the patients with intestinal polyps of pre-polypectomy and post-polypectomy. Finally, this study is to investigate the serum metabolomics variations of patients with intestinal polyps of pre-polypectomy and post-polypectomy and the relationship with their TCM syndrome types and TCM constitution classifications, to determine the correlation among pathology, TCM constitution, TCM syndrome types and the metabonomics variations of patients with intestinal polyps.
Measuring the Spectrum of Tissues During Endoscopy
Colon CarcinomaColonic Polyps1 moreLesions, polyps and other abnormalities in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract have a different composition compared to the normal mucose. The investigators plan to gather spectroscopic information from these features. Characterizing their unique spectrums, may help to enhance the detection and identification of these objects during endoscopy.
