Objectives: This study is looking at the level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) circulating in the blood stream of patients diagnosed with either a meningioma or a glioma. The questions that will be addressed include: Can VEGF level alert us to tumor progression or recurrence before MRI changes occur? Is the VEGF level an indicator of the response to treatment? Does the VEGF level correlate with tumor histology and behavior? Is there a relationship between VEGF level and outcome?

Tumor dosimetry with somatostatin receptor-targeted peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (SSTR-targeted PRRT) by 177Lutetium-DOTATATE might contribute to improve follow-up and treatment response of refractory meningiomas. This study aims to evaluate Standard Uptake Value mean (SUVmean) as a tumoral absorbed dose predictive predictive factor and propose semi-automated segmentation method to determine metabolic tumor volume with pretherapeutic 68-Gallium-DOTATOC PET.

U-Net-based architectures will be applied to 500 contrast-enhanced axial MR images of different patients from a single institution after manual segmentation of meningioma, of which 50 were used for testing. Tumor volumetry after autosegmentation by trained U-Net-based architecture is final goal.

A Comparative Study of Prophylactic Anticoagulation in Meningioma Surgery

Meningioma

The aim of the study is to compare different strategies for prevention of venous thromboembolism related to intracranial meningioma surgery. The investigators identified three hospitals where two have a very restrictive approach with respect to anticoagulant therapy while at the third hospital the use of anticoagulation the day before surgery was initiated as routine prophylaxis. Based on this "natural experiment" it will be explored whether the use of anticoagulant prophylaxis is associated with reduced risk of venous thromboembolism and/or associated with increased risk of postoperative hemorrhage as compared to the 2 cohorts where this intervention were absent.
