Harnessing Placebo Effects: Non-Deceptive Use of Placebo in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable Bowel SyndromeIrritable bowel syndrome patients will be given either placebo pill or no treatment for a period of 3 weeks.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) With Desipramine
Irritable Bowel SyndromeIndividuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) may experience abdominal pain as a result of pain signals in the bowel and how these signals are processed in the brain. Studies using brain imaging (pictures) have shown that IBS patients with more pain diagnoses (i.e. fibromyalgia, migraines, etc.) have greater activity in the regions of the brain responsible for the emotional and thought processing of pain signals. This could possibly make bowel sensations and bowel difficulties feel abnormal or more noticeable, in turn causing more severe IBS symptoms. The purpose of this protocol is to explore the role of pain diagnoses and their affect on brain activity in IBS patients. The investigators will also examine the use of a medication, desipramine, which is known to affect these brain regions, in IBS patients.
A Computer-Based Intervention for Medically Unexplained Physical Symptoms
FibromyalgiaIrritable Bowel Syndrome1 moreIn this study 60 people with medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS) will receive either a 6-session resilience skill building intervention provided fully online or a weekly computerized journaling assignment. Both programs can be completed from home. Participants will complete questionnaires both before and after the intervention and changes in symptoms, mood and satisfaction with life will be assessed.
The Impact of Dietary Treatment in Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel SyndromeThe obtained results are likely to determine whether changes in the diet of patients with irritable bowel syndrome will affect their nutritional status. They will also allow you to assess whether dietary treatment will affect the resolution or alleviation, or severity of disease symptoms in IBS. The test results can be used in clinical practice. Participation in the study does not carry any risk of complications associated with undergoing a medical experiment.
Probiotics and Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel SyndromeThis clinical trial was conducted on 90 IBS patients, who fulfill ROME IV criteria and the IBS diagnostic questionnaire (Arabic version licensed by Rome Foundation) in Egyptair hospital outpatient clinic, Cairo, Egypt between May and December 2019. Data of the patient, with suspected IBS during the study period, were reviewed and the patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were enrolled into this study. A written consent was obtained from all included patients. The patients who agreed to participate were then randomly assigned into two equal groups and were followed up after 4 weeks from the first visit.
Saccharomyces Cerevisiae for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel SyndromeThis study is designed to see the response of saccharomyces cerevisiae for symptomatic improvement of patients with IBS
Diets in Symptom Relief and the Influence of Quality of Life in People With Irritable Bowel Syndrome...
Irritable Bowel SyndromeSubjects with confirmed diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome will be blinded and randomly assigned to one of two groups, the low FODMAP diet or the conventional IBS diet group. They will be referred to do three hydrogen breath tests prior to diet education. Upon completion, subjects will attend dietitian consultations at Week 0, 6 and 10 for diet assessment, education and reinforcement. At Week 4 and 8, dietitians will telephone patients to check on diet compliance and answer any diet question. Two sets of questionnaires, the IBS Global Improvement Scale and the IBSQOL will be given to patients to complete before each dietitian visit at week 0, 6 and 10. Two sample t-test and Chi square test will be used to test the difference between the two groups and the association between breath tests results and responds to the two diets.
Comparing Two Types of Diets on Psychological and Gastrointestinal Symptoms
Irritable Bowel SyndromeThis pilot study proposes to gain a better understanding of the health benefits of the popular "paleo-diet" in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and explore underlying mechanisms of benefit.
Delivered Dietary Intervention for Children With Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel SyndromeAbdominal PainThe purpose of this study is to determine whether a specific diet may help children with irritable bowel syndrome.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Food Sensitivity
Irritable Bowel SyndromeThe primary objective of the clinical trial portion of this study is to assess whether an individualized dietary plan based on a commercial food sensitivity assay provides specific benefit in a randomized controlled trial in adults with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
