Health Education Delivery Methods for a Low Fermentable Carbohydrate Diet in Patients With Functional...

Irritable Bowel SyndromeFunctional Diarrhea1 more

There is evidence for the use of a diet low in short chain fermentable carbohydrates (low FODMAP diet) in the management of functional gut symptoms, such as abdominal pain and bloating. However, the provision of advice on the low FODMAP diet can be challenging due to limited resources and the need for a dietitian with expertise in the low FODMAP diet. The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility in terms of recruitment and retention in planning a future trial. The purpose of the future trial will be to investigate the clinical and cost effectiveness, as well as the acceptability of different education methods of the low FODMAP diet for the treatment of IBS. To date, there are no studies on the implementation of the low FOMDAP diet using a mobile app or leaflets in the education of the low FODMAP diet. Therefore, a feasibility study design was chosen in order to obtain key data on recruitment and retention rates at each study group.

Improving Quality of Care With a Digital Behavioral Program in IBD Patient Centered Medical Home...

AnxietyIrritable Bowel Disease

Anxiety disorders and depression are more prevalent in patients living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) than in healthy controls. Approximately 40% of IBD patients have elevated anxiety. Given the robust effectiveness of cognitive behavioral approaches for anxiety disorders and the paucity or mixed findings of cognitive behavioral approaches for anxiety in IBD, an integrated behavioral approach and combining face to face and online cognitive behavioral modalities is recommended for IBD patients with anxiety.

Precision Pain Self-Management in Young Adults With Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

This pilot project will provide foundational information about the contextual factors of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) related pain (pain catastrophizing, perceived stress, reactivity pain sensitivity, genetic and microbiome) on pain self-management (SM) process and outcomes. In addition, the investigators will gain insight on the potential impact of the personalized IBS-pain SM approach on pain SM behaviors and health outcomes.

Impact of a Yoga Intervention on Pain and Multiomics in Participants With IBS

Irritable Bowel SyndromeAbdominal Pain

The purpose of this research study is to see if a six-week yoga program delivered online/virtually via Zoom, reduces abdominal pain in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This study also looks at whether the yoga program changes the composition of microorganisms in the gut and their metabolites, and compares the program in people with IBS versus healthy people (also known as "healthy controls" or "HC"). People in this study are randomized (like flipping a coin) to one of two conditions: half of the people attend the online/virtual private yoga program delivered via Zoom for the first six-weeks, and half of the people wait for six-weeks and then attend the online/virtual private yoga program for six-weeks. The hypothesis of this study is that the practice of yoga induces shifts in the gut microbiota and microbial-derived metabolites, which will correlate with diminished abdominal pain.

Fructo-oligosaccharides and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Fructo-oligosaccharides are known as prebiotic ingredients to modulate the composition of the intestinal microbiota and particularly to stimulate the growth of Bifidobacteria. Imbalance of the intestinal microbiota such as reduction of Bifidobacteria is implicated in Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Thus the objective of the study is to evaluate the effect of fructo-oligosaccharides to improve IBS score and to explore which modifications of the microbiota are responsible of this improvement.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome With Diarrhea

Several probiotic strains have shown beneficial outcomes in IBS patients, particularly among the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium genera, Lactobacillus plantarum (recently reclassified as Lactiplantibacillus plantarum) is a frequently isolated species of the healthy human GI tract that has been studied in numerous GI clinical studies, including for IBS.In the present study, the efficacy and tolerability of L. plantarum (UALp-05TM), will be evaluated in individuals with IBS-D.
