ALPCO Calprotectin ELISA - Measurement of Calprotectin Levels in Human Stool

Inflammatory Bowel DiseasesIrritable Bowel Syndrome

The ALPCO Calprotectin ELISA is an in vitro diagnostic test intended to quantitatively measure concentrations of fecal calprotectin in human stool samples. Calprotectin is a protein biomarker of mucosal inflammation. Measurement of calprotectin can aid in the diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), specifically Crohn's Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC), as well as aid in the differentiation of IBD from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) when used in conjunction with other diagnostic testing and the total clinical picture. This study will estimate the predictive values of a negative (NPV) and positive (PPV) test by utilizing the assay outcomes of the ALPCO Calprotectin ELISA.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome With Diarrhea

Purpose: identification of factors predisposing for Post-Infectious Irritable Bowel Syndrome (PI-IBS) development after an episode of traveler's diarrhea identification of systemic (serum) and local (biopsy) changes in infectious and immunological activity during infection and correlation with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms, persisting after traveler's diarrhea Design: 4 study visits: before traveling, 2 weeks after traveling, 6 months after traveling, 12 months after traveling at each study visit following investigations: blood collection, stool collection, questionnaires, rectal biopsy

Chronic Gastrointestinal Sequelae of an Acute Outbreak of Bacterial Gastroenteritis in Walkerton...

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Acute Bacterial dysentery leads to chronic symptoms of disturbed bowel habit in a minority of individuals. This condition known as post infectious irritable bowel syndrome (PI-IBS) remains poorly understood. This could allow material in the bowel to reach deeper tissues of the bowel wall leading to inflammation and changes in muscle and nerve function. This is also early evidence that genetic programming of people with PI-IBS prevents them from turning off inflammation once it begins. Literature suggests that IBS may develop at greater rates in individuals with pro-inflammatory genotype and that these individuals may be at increased risk of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).

Integrative Gastroenterology - an Observational Trial

Crohns DiseaseUlcerative Colitis1 more

This study aims to test, if a two-week integrative therapy in an internal medicine ward will improve symptoms, disability and quality of life in patients with inflammatory bowel disease or irritable bowel syndrome.a It shall further be tested, if those changes are associated with attitudes and experiences towards complementary and alternative medicine, anxiety, depression and stress perception as well as body awareness and responsiveness.

Efficacy of Rifaximin to Treat Diarrhea-predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disease and the pathogenesis of this disease includes central and peripheral mechanisms. In recent years, there were many studies suggesting that microbiota in the intestine may play an important role in the IBS.What's more, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) may be an important pathogenic factor for IBS and the use of antibiotics may be beneficial. Therefore, the investigators intend to explore the efficacy of rifaximin for IBS-D in Chinese population.

Effects of Low FODMAP Diet on Leaky Gut

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

The pathophysiology of Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is multifactorial involving complex interplay of altered intestinal permeability, mucosal immune activation, visceral hypersensitivity and gut dysbiosis. Although the exact triggers for these pathological changes in IBS are not clear but diet might play an important role. In fact, several studies have reported improvement in gastrointestinal symptoms on a diet low in FODMAPs (LFD) in patients with IBS, specifically in diarrhea predominant IBS (IBS-D). However, the mechanism of action of LFD is not well understood.
